When it became cost effective to produce medleys instead of megamixes, Jive Bunny began releasing countless mid-price CDs that were a shadow of their former glories. "Rock N Roll Dance Party" was one of their first such albums -- and much to my disappointment, the quality of their offerings reflected in the price.
"Rock N Roll Dance Party" isn't that bad. If you enjoy listening to classic 50s/60s songs, I have no doubt you'll love this album. But if you remember
the days when Jive Bunny megamixes frequently entered the charts -- and on three occasions hit number one -- the 'new' line of musical work will disappoint you.
Regardless of the fact this CD boasts some terrific rock n roll songs -- ones you know and love -- the reason why I don't rate these albums highly is mainly due to the 'sound-a-likes' used to perform these classic songs. When Jive Bunny released 'megamixes', the songs sampled were over in a matter of seconds so it didn't mind if the uncredited vocalists didn't sound anything like the original artist. But with these 'medley' albums, the vocal limitations of these performers are painfully evident.
Still, it is a "Rock N Roll Dance Party" album, and with it released at such a reasonable price, I suppose it's worth buying -- even if it seemed Jive Bunny was producing these types of albums on a monthly basis.
