Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Alison Tries Something Different
Renowned for her Bluegrass music and the support of her band Union Station Alison Krauss followed up her amazing album So Long So Wrong with something a little different.

This album contains a collection of mostly Pop standards a good number of which have been done before, but none so beautifully. Most members of Union Station are present on this album but merely as musicians and they show of their full musical diverstiy with the use of more modern instruments and a drum kit.

Alison's voice is as amazing as ever and she makes each and every track her own.

For me the stand out track is the Todd Rundgren Classic, "It Wouldn't Have Made Any Difference," a song also covered by Manhatten Transfer, but the version here just blows it's predecessors away.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Boring, boring and boring
The only reason to give it 3 stars is for her fantastic voice.
Songs are very boring, and the musicians are realy boring.
Very plain, and boring country music, with boring lyrics.
You have heard it all before, and also mutch bether.
There are mabye 1 or 2 good songs, that's it.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - The tip of the iceberg...
I have only recently picked up this album and frankly it is a little disappointing. It is by no means a poor album but it does not scale the heady heights of either her earlier bluegrass offerings or of her 2001 mainstream masterpiece New Favorite.

Certainly this album demonstrates her willingness to exploit the obvious pop possibilities of her remarkable voice which would lead on to New Favorite but ultimately it is a little bland coming from such a colossal talent. It lacks the energy that Dan Tyminski's presence brings and in many cases the songwriting here simply is not as good as her own.

The one notable exception is the long overdue revival of that overlooked songwriting genius Todd Rundgren via his beautiful broken-heart ballad "It Wouldn't Have Made Any Difference".

In summary, it's good but it should be the last album you buy by this artist.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Terry's Eurovision!
Recently I started listening to Radio 2 on the drive to work - great show with a perfect mix of chat & music. I arrived when "Forget about it" started but I stayed locked in my car listening to this song - the lyrics and sound got me!

And here I was thinking Wogan's only major accomplishment was to make Eurovision fun to watch!

Enjoy this album - I do and recommend it.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Contemporary country from Alison
Alison made her reputation as a bluegrass singer and musician but this album, excellent as it is, doesn't contain any bluegrass music. Instead, Alison (who also produced the album) has gone for a contemporary country sound, albeit one that includes mandolin and dobro among the instruments used. Some of Alison's albums are credited to Alison Krauss and Union Station. This is billed as a solo album, yet all the members of Union Station (Barry Bales, Ron Block, Jerry Douglas and Dan Tyminski) feature heavily in the musician credits.

As we've come to expect from Alison, the album is dominated by ballads that suit her voice ideally - if you want up-tempo songs, forget about Alison Krauss. Among the songs, Michael McDonald wrote or co-wrote three (Empty hearts, It don't matter now, That kind of love) while Todd Rundgren wrote It wouldn't have made any difference. Country music fans may recognize Dreaming my dreams with you (recorded in the seventies first by Crystal Gayle, then by Waylon Jennings) and Ghost in this house (one of Shenandoah's big hits of the late eighties). These two country oldies are my favorite tracks here. Alison performs them as well as the other versions I've mentioned. Dolly Parton and Lyle Lovett provide harmony vocals on Dreaming my dreams with you.

While I generally prefer Alison's early music, this album provides proof that Alison can match the best contemporary country singers.
