Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Crass almighty!?
Any Crass release is always worth a buy, and when anyone gives a Crass release 4 stars, what they've doing it is giving it one star less than their favourite album (in my case "Yes Sir, I Will" - not a musical outing, but after reading the lyrics, it's life changing at the very least). This is no exception.

A good cross-section of their releases from "Feeding of the 5,000" through to the aforementioned great album it has all the usual rants and raves in a fairly-not-too-bad/could-be-worse sound quality (it beats "Stations of the Crass anyway!). Crass are never the same live, sadly I've never seen them live (they broke up before my birth), but I've seen "Christ: the Movie" and heard some accounts of their shows from people who went and it seems it's an all-encompassing sensory experience. I can only imagine the props, stage-action and visuals that went along with this sort of performance. Needless to say Steve Ignorant is a little on the hoarse side but if you count how long he sings for, it puts shame to any act on the block, past or present.

The songs are the same, with a little tuning up and down to their LP counterparts but there's something about hearing them live, and uninterrupted. It's great stuff and the blending of tapes and other sound effects into the performance makes it come to life in the same way it does on "Christ the Album."

It's just over 40 or so minutes of live sampling and it's worth it - I can't remember how many "hands" I got mine, but it's in bad shape and still listenable. It's a nice round-off to the usual Crass collection and I'd recommend it as something for the uninitiated and veterans of both anarchism and punk.

Anarcho-punk roots, Crass are looked at as the be and end all of the genre, which they aren't (go listen to Flux of Pink Indians and if you can get hold of their stuff, Dirt and Krondstat Insurrection, even [God forbid] Chumbawamba, who still hold their own) - but they show now, and then that they talk and walk anarchism.

As the back cover says: "Crass were anarchy, peace and freedom."
