Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Crazy For More!
Upon forst impressions, the CD sounds incredibly Cheesey, not that it put me off! Ruthie Henshall plays the part of Polly to perfection on the recording, and Kirby Ward so crisp that even if he wispered his way through the show, it would still be clear enoguh to understand him!

There is no way I can pick out favourite songs, each one is as great as the next. However, Slap That Bass and I got Rythem will leave you singing for hours after lisenting to just 10 seconds. This recording is not some tacky London Cast, trying to beat the Broadway version, it is in fact much better, and I would Highly reccomend this one over Broadway.

Another highlight is that none of the msuic is cut from the recording, leaving it all there, making some sobgs last for over 5 minutes. you can hear the tap routines on the CD too, making it even more vivid.

A first class CD!!!!!!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Turning "Girl Crazy" into a "new" musicial, "Crazy For You"
In 1988 the Cole Porter musical "Anything Goes" received a radical revision that included not only reworking the book but also restoring songs that had been dropped fifty years earlier and adding songs from other Porter musicals. In 1991 the George Gershwin musical "Girl Crazy" was given similar treatment with equally wonderful results. "Crazy for You" features a new libretto by Ken Ludwig ("Lend Me A Tenor"), who was aided by Gershwin archivist Tommy Krasker in coming up with songs by George and Ira Gershwin that would fit the new story. Six songs from the original score of "Girl Crazy" remain, including the classics "Embraceable You," "I Got Rhythm," and "But Not For Me." Two songs, "Tonight's the Night" and "What Causes That" were lost songs that had been dropped from other shows and were only rediscovered in 1982. But some of the most recognizable songs from "Crazy For You" come from Hollywood movies, such as "They Can't Take That Away From Me" from "Shall We Dance." The end result is, indeed, a "new" Gershwin musical comedy and I think this works big time. Unlike Rodgers & Hammerstein, where the musicals have been preserved as films and everybody knows the dramatic context for "Shall We Dance" or "My Favorite Things," the musicals by Gershwin and Porter exist in the dim, dark days before World War II (or pre-"Oklahoma" in Broadway terms).

"Crazy for You" takes place at both the Zangler Theater in New York City in the 1930s where the "Zangler Follies" are being performed, and the has-been mining town of Deadrock, Nevada. The story, of course, centers around a boy meets girl story with Bobby Child (Harry Groener), heir to a wealthy banking family who longs to be in show business, and Polly Baker (Jodi Benson), the feisty postmistress who is the only woman in Deadrock. Of course things get very complex (the description of the two acts runs two full pages in the booklet), but you will be able to understand who is singing which song to whom and why. Then again, this is Gershwin. Being sung by the Little Mermaid no less. You can just enjoy the songs and not concern yourself with the dramatic context.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - London Cast Out-Broadway's Broadway!
This album's got an unfair advantage in that the songs on it are such brilliant, timeless classics, that any cast will make it sound good. That said, the london cast here make it spring out of the CD player like an over-excited kangaroo.
The production is wonderfully lush, the musicians, chorus and vocalists blend so well that it's actually very difficult to pick out exceptions. This comes to the fore on the big ensemble numbers such as Slap That Bass and I Got Rhythm. The latter is a genuine tour de force of the musical theatre and is performed sensationally well by the singers and musicians here. For those who've performed, or are about to perform the show, the majority of the songs, and certainly the big numbers, are recorded using the exact broadway arrangement's, with very few cuts, which is not only unusual but very helpful when you're doing choreography, and this is a more complete recording than its broadway counterpart.
All the songs rattle away at a cracking pace and - thank goodness - are allowed to be indulged, the big songs are 4 minutes long at the shortest, which means one doesn't feel as though one's been short-changed. The end of 'Nice Work If You Can Get It', and every second of 'I Got Rhythm', 'Shall We Dance', and 'Slap That Bass' are particular highlights, but they're all brilliant, and all of Gershwin's gorgeous chord changes and harmonies come floating out of the arrangements like a dream - it's genuine spine-tingling stuff. It's broadway contemporary is slower, with more (and rather unsubtle) cuts to the music, and sounds almost dull by comparison. A must have for music, and musical theatre lovers everywhere, or indeed people everywhere. It's music to make you smile.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Undeniably catchy CHEEEEEEESE!!
When looking at the track listing for this Gershwin musical, you can see why it was written. I reads more like 'Gershwin's greatest hits', with a poor excuse for a narative hung around them. To a certain extent this is true. If you've ever seen the musical, you'll know that plot and characterisation are hardly as important as singing and song...but you won't see me complaining.

The problem with this CD is that it's SOOOO damn catchy. You'll listen to it once, and then weeks later STILL find yourself whistling along to 'I can't be bothered now', or 'Embraceable You', or 'Bidin' my Time'. Each of the tracks on this album is an abbsolute winner, and taken together they provide more then Gershwin's Greatest Hits, it's more like 'Music to Infuriate yourself by'. Brilliant!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Brilliant!
this recording contains many familiar songs from the musical 'Crazy for you'. follow the story of Bobby the New York banker, and Polly, the fiesty postmisteress of Deadrock, Nevada. the songs are so catchy, you will be singing them for weeks after just the first listen!
