- Dio's modern day metal masterpiece.
God can Ronnie James Dio do anything bad? Well probably yes but he just keeps on getting better and better. Dio's first concept album and an awesome first concept album indeed. I think the guitarist(His name escapes me) on Magica and Killing The Dragon is amazing. First when you get this you must listen to the album in full(as it is a concept album), then once you've that you get to rock out to some of the best songs you'll ever like Lord Of the Last Day, Fever Dreams, Turn To Stone, Challis and so on. Dio's vocals are awesome on this album(duh) as is everything else on this album is awesome.
The annoying parts on this album are when at the start/end of some songs has an annoying robot speaking but thankfully not for long so that's a small minor. Also the last song Magica which is 18 minutes long and it is Dio telling the story of Magica, which is OK but it kinda gets boring.
In conclusion this album Rocks and should be in every Dio collection. Forget Ozzy Dio's the Metal God now.

This has got to be one of the finest rock albums ever.
I'velistened to it every day since I bought it (from Amazon) and in two yearsI not sick of it...

Rating: - Magical feeling
I never knew of Dio till I heard this album. Ronnies voice sounded to me like a mix of Freddie Mercury and Ozzy. I thought I was dealing with a young star of metal, simply because of the energy he puts into his songs, but no. This is the old master teaching all of us how it is done. On track 8 his voice carries a great part of the song almost alone, and off course he masters his voice perfectly on every track. The album is a theme-album, build upon a magical world of good and evil, with wizards and sorcery. The last 18 minutes is a tale of good vs evil, and all the tracks are related to this story, often a bad idea, but here it just work so well. The songs take you to this medieval world, for example track 9 starts with a medieval sounding guitar riff accompanied by a flute, before it bursts into heavy metal. If you buy the enhanced Japanese version you will get a beautiful instrumental track, which is basically one long guitar solo.
Warning: In my oppinion the style of this album is different from old Dio material, so don't expect just another Dio album.

I have not heard the album before this, Angry Machines, but it is 2/5. Now, the decade of the '90s wasn't a great period for the band dio, music wise. The lack of rock and roll and metal really brought the whole atmosphere of what Dio lived for down. Although, in this period I did like the album Strange Highways, although strange gives a new essence to Dio's albums.
Now, with that, 2000 brought a 'return to form' for Ronnie James Dio and co. that shook the rock ground. This album, Magica! It was almost to say that this atmosphere was back. People started to say that the '80s were coming back, and this is where Dio thrived.
The lyrics that Dio made for the album were much more inspirational than before in the '90s. The guitarist, Craig Goldie is mighty fine. Although he is not the best of guitarists, he can really write some amazing riffs that almost bleed his ideas into the large concotion of Dio's metal masterpieces coldren.
I am dissapointed with the amount of people who have given this album 4/5 as I do belive the band deserves the full marks for an amazing and inspirational return to form.
Just one note for future referance, Dio will be recording his new album in January 2004.

Unlike most people i would say that Dio's lat album (Angry Machines) was a very fine album, but like most people I would say that this Dio album is the true masterpiece. Even without the storyline about the book of Magica this album would still have the epic fell of a concept album. Cleverly thought out lyrics and crunching guitar fiffs complimented perfectly with soaring keyboards and plenty of big metal solos all come together to make one hell of an album.
