Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Still worth buying
I didn`t think this would be as good as Solitary Man and it isn`t,but it`s still worth buying.I think JC`s versions of In My Life,BOTW and Desperado are the weak tracks, but more than made up for with the others. The title track is compelling, and other stand out tracks are Hurt and I Hung My Head. There is a warmth and sincerity in JC`s voice that makes technical quibbles pointless.First Time Ever I Saw Your Face is a powerful and moving performance, and it`s worth buying the CD for this track alone. In a world of fascile, forgettable singers, this man shines like a diamond.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Count On Cash ....
The return of the Man In Black is no disappointment. For years without number Johnny Cash has been doing the business on the Country Music scene and this album is a through and through masterpiece.

A poignant trip through some of JCs favourite songs with a smattering of his own thrown in for good measure. Indeed, the title track ranks as one of the mans best ever songs. When you consider the volume of his output, much of it high quality anyway, you realise what an accolade this is.

JC is 70 now and the sad thing about this lp is that it almost sounds like his own obituary. It is almost spooky - songs like 'In My Life' (the Lennon classic), 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' and 'Danny Boy' are deeply moving but in a way that is almost unique. The only analogy that I can draw is with the classic Townes Van Zandt album 'Far Cry From Dead'.

In addition to the above songs given the archetypal JC treatment, we even have a version of Depeche Modes 'Personal Jesus'. It is difficult to see what JC is saying by covering the song. It seems almost diametrically opposed to other songs that he has done on all levels but it works. All of the songs work. JC sounds older, wiser and rather world weary but his choice of songs is top notch and, as an entirety, this album is a simply perfect musical snapshot of the life of one of Countrys finest exponents.

I only hope that it isn't his last.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The man comes around
Never previously a Johnny Cash fan, bought the record out of curiosity and was very impressed. Sometimes moving, sometimes sad and sometimes funny, this a great record. The title track is real 'hairs standing on end' stuff, and the cover version of 'Personal Jesus' is a triumph. I play it in the car nearly every day since i bought it.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - John R. Cash is The Man
Haven't checked out Cash for a few years? What can I say - he's older, gruffer and can't hold those notes - but this is stunning. The eponymous opener, a self penned ditty, is a real grabber. He's got you from that point on.

A great collection of covers rescues some previously washed out material. "Bridge Over Troubled Water" that much crossed classic is delivered in Johnny's easy shaky style. While "Danny Boy" the downfall of many a pub drunk is given a new lease of life. Lennon & McCartney's "In My Life" suddenly makes sense.

So what if he's sometimes a bit shakey and shows his age and condition? In the end you find yourself singing along to a great country singer and his crew belting out "We'll Meet Again" and wondering how the man does it. Who cares? It's pure joy.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Ive never been touched by a cd as much as this
Just Buy it. One of the records of the year. The frailty of his once mighty roar of a voice is bracketed poigniantly by the dark forbodings of 'The man comes around' and the immense wall of sound that Rubin has summoned up for the awesome 'Hurt'.A couple of songs may have been maudlin and cheesy in the hands of anyone else, but Cash's sheer majesty renders even 'we'll meet again' and 'bridge over troubled waters' as bearable in his hands.
