I felt compelled to write a review of this abum having owned it for more than a year. It's constantly featured on my playlists even after all this time, and with good reason. Some other reviewers are totally missing the point of the configuration of these 3 cd's. They are only intended as a celebratory snapshot of Hed Kandi's glittering past and do a dam good job of it. I admit to being a long-time kandi follower but I will be perfectly ready to slate an album if it fails my expectations. This one however, doesn't. Quite frankly, I don't care that I don't get the full versions of all the songs - its just means they get to put more top quality tunes on without wasting time on intros. A great album for a newbie or a fan who wants a collection of all of Kandi's greatest hits.

As the other reviews here point out, this was never expected to deliver anything new. As a tour of all things Hed Kandi leading up to their 50th album it's relatively successful. You can't fault many of the track selections and it contains many of my highlights. However...
...compared to their other mix CDs this is a poorer cousin. Some of the mixing is of very poor quality (both ill-thought out and poorly executed) and the track listings don't work. This is a CD which would have worked much better with unmixed tracks - none of the CDs develop any sort of flow. This is hardly surprising from what is essentially a 'Greatest Hits' album. Furthermore, in their attempt to cram more tracks onto the CDs, they have cut back some of the songs significantly, to their detriment. For example, To Be In Love runs for only two minutes and twenty seconds - and it feels like it's been squeezed between other tracks just to get it in there.
If you've never bought a Hed Kandi CD then this would be an OK place to start. Personally, I'd try one of the earlier mix CDs, especially the Summer 2004 set.

I see there's some pretty mixed reviews for this and mine is probably just going to add to that. First out Hed Kandi IS an excellent label that produces some fine collections covering a wide range of house music and I've brought many of their albums over the last 4 years.
This 50th album is representitive of their experience in house music, however, I really felt that by trying to represent it's broad spectrum of music, it never really settles into a comfortable mix session on any of the CD's. I do agree with the last review that it is a good warm up to going out, but it's not amazing.
What I would say in their defence is that for people who are new to Hed Kandi is that this is a great introduction to what they do and what they're about.
Afficiando's you're not missing anything, but as the last reviewer said 'what's a tenner?'. I can't help but agree.

Ah, I reccomend ignoring the negativity. It's just so naive.
This Compilation celebrates Hed Kandi, one of the best Dance Labels around.
It's original, enjoyable and great for before you go out.
I can't see the problem with that, pointless comments like the mention that this isn't as Hed Kandi intended is off the mark.
It is a compilation of existing HK music, not a new CD.
Worth buying. At the end of the day, the worst that can happen is you lose a tenner.

Am a relatively new Hed Kandi fan so was very pleased to receive this. A fair few songs recognised from last year but loved it never the less. Disc one is particularly good I shall definately be purchasing more Hed kandi albums. Downloaded onto my free nano ipod so I dont disturb the neighbours, HA!
