- The Kid rocks!
This album was my first Kid Rock purchase, in fact it was the first time I had listened to him. The reason I bought it was he got a mention on the song 'Son of the South' by David Allen Coe. I am a huge fan of southern rock and country rock.
To my delight the first track on the album is a rocked up version of this song titled 'Son of Detroit'!
The content is a mix of rock and rap. The cover warns of explicit lyrics and means it. Fans of Madonna and Brittney may not be too impressed, although few of them will be reading this review.
I enjoyed this whole album, but 2 other songs made it for me. 'Motherf***er Quite Like Me' is semi-autobiographical. He takes a verse from Skynyrd's 'Free Bird' and sings it beautifully, then rocks it up and turns on the passion...Brilliant! 'Picture' he duetted with Gretchen Wilson. She is a country singer with a great voice, and 'Picture' is a country song. To be able to harmonise with such an artist just goes to prove that he really can sing, and not just yell down a mike like some other rockers.
This is rock music as it should be. He writes what he thinks and sings what he wants. If you don't like it, don't listen.
