This is a good CD. Very interesting take on sixties style music. However, there is nothing ground-breaking here and after a while the decadent outlook on life gets a bit ... dull really. Lighten-up Amy.

The Verdict - If you like soul R'n'B this is the album for you. Not for rock music lovers. 10/10

This album is a surprise to anyone who has seen Amy Winehouse on shows like 'Never Mind The Buzzcocks', where she is wheeled out like a circus freakshow so the audience can snigger at her slatternly behaviour. By comparison, America's überslut Pink looks demure.
Listeners can't ignore that media persona because it's so at odds with the music. You know this is a 'mowfy Inglish giwl', so that false American accent sounds very out-of-place.
Most of this CD is imitation stax R'n'B - faithfully copied and all the more sterile for it. Too much of the album sounds like an audition for a Motown tribute show, and it's a genuine surprise that there isn't a cover of 'Heatwave'. Still, if that's your thing, then buy this album because it's done supremely (or should I say Supremes-ly?) well, and better than anything that's been done in that style for years. No-one should be discouraged from loving music.
There is no denying that Winehouse has a fabulous voice, and I've got a sneaking feeling that, if anyone dragged me out to see her live in a small venue, I'd love it - assuming she bothered to turn up half-sober. The title track of this album is superb, partly because it's a great song and partly because Winehouse sings it like she means it.
Sadly, most of the time she is firmly within her comfort zone. If she is going to go any further in this business, she needs to find her own voice instead of settling for singing Stax karaoke and being a cheap laugh on TV.

I loved this album - she has such a unique voice - my favourite is Tears dry on their own - but there are lots of good tracks on one album ( so rare these days)
