Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - The leader has fallen
Who would want to listen to a near 50 year old woman sing 'see my bootie get down'.

Come on Madonna - raise your game

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - For an artist who doesn't like things to be "the same"...
Despite owning every other Madonna album and loving each on its merits, this record is unremarkable and bland. Perhaps two tracks are the exception rather than the rule (Miles Away and Incredible), the remainder all leave a sickly taste, either because they are uninspired or feature dreadful ad-libs such as "hey", "girl" or "Madonna, Madonna" from the worn-out collaborators Madonna chose to work on.

The sound lacks the freshness of Confessions, Ray of Light and Music, and seems to return Madonna squarely to an American Life style of sound. Quite why that style would be more successful now in the US than it was in 2003 is unknown, although like it has something to do with the political climate at the time.

So many tracks are indistinguishable from each other, with the same flat vocals - whilst Confessions may not have been a lyrical masterpiece, some of the songs there had far more emotional depth than this offering. Quite whether this album will stand the test of time remains to be seen, although it seems nothing short of another 'concept album' in the same way that American Life and Bedtime Stories were.

Two stars because it gave me such a laugh at the poor production quality.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Being honest its a great album
This album is a great album. I have every Madonna album to date and i feel this album is up there with her best work. I dont understand people who cringe at her working top producers and artists of our time. I guess they are not musicians and singers like myself and Madonna. Madonna works with new budding producers and established producers, thats what creative and curious musicians DO. So deal with it!

This is album is so much better than most of the music in the uk top forty right now and is so relevant. Songs like 'candy shop', 'give it to me', 'miles away', 'the devil wouldn't recognize you' are just wonderful catchy make you dance pop tunes. The outstanding tracks on this album for me are 'Incredible' 'Heartbeat' and 'She's not me'. In 'Incredible' Madonna's vocals are so like her vocals in her first album Madonna, so alluring, fresh and gorgeous. She sings ' you're welcome to my party ' in such a way that only Madonna could. Yes this album IS really really great. Well done for still being creative, searching and producing a fine collection of songs.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - just horrible
If I'd like "hip hop" or "urban" or "r&b" I'd maybe buy this album. But I don't like those kinds of music (well, actually I don't even consider those sounds music), so I'll forget that Madonna ever made this piece of crap.

I just cannot understand that people who loved the beautiful Confessions album also like this uninspired drivel.

Please Madonna, go back to your pop / disco roots and leave hip hop / urban / r&b to the kids who don't know any better!

(For the record: I rated this album 1 star because it is not possible to give it minus 5 stars.)

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Confessions takes some beating!
I am an absolutely HUGE Madge fan, and couldn't wait to get this album, but I think we have been clearly spoilt by Confessions, and nothing will ever come close to its excellence.

Unlike Confessions, Hard Candy is not an instant beauty; however, having listened to it many times a day for the past week, I have to say it's a real grower, and I'm starting to really like it.

Best tracks for me have to be Incredible and Give it to me (the next single). Also like Heartbeat a lot. This album is going back to her early days IMO, it's got that early 80's feel for me. Real grower and worth having in your collection for sure, don't get me wrong, but not quite up to her excellent Confessions standard.
