Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Still no MFZB, but a great effort.
I don't think 2 stars is a justified score, and while I certainly don't think Phoenix is Zebrahead's best work, I do think it's a great pop-punk album with more to offer than Broadcast To The World.

In my opinion Matty sounds a lot nicer with his vocals in Phoenix than in Broadcast. I think this is mostly thanks to the way the album is produced, but nonetheless it is nicer to listen to. It's clear that some effort has gone into trying to throw some original ideas for this album. Ali's rapping style is as distinctive as ever for most of the CD, but on a couple of the tracks you can tell he's gone for a slightly different sound (All for None and None For All, Hit The Ground). Matty also attempts a bit of screaming at one particular track, which I was skeptical he'd pull off but it actually sounds pretty good.

It's a very pop-punk sound, which might come as bad news to some fans of MFZB. I personally appreciate the pop-punk direction Zebrahead seem to be going in, as it seems to compliment their distinctive style effectively.

I'm a very old-skool Zebrahead fan, but i'll be the first to admit the album is not without its faults. The structure of the songs begins to get repetitive after a while. The rap verses all follow the same distinctive pattern but luckily the chorus sections just about rescue it.

Overall it's a very high-spirited pop-punk CD. I'm really pleased that the band has gained some recognition in recent years, and I hope that their popularity will continue to increase with this release.

Notable Tracks:

Mental Health
Hit The Ground
Two Wrongs Don't Make a Right, But Three Rights Make a Left

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Solid Album
I personally disagree with the first review. I think its a good solid album, for fans of ZH, aswell people looking for some new stuff to listen to. ZH have an amazing sound, and they havnt changed it for this album, and i'm glad.

although this album is not MFZB level (one of my personal favourite albums), its slightly better than Broadcast to the World, and i think (just cos it has more tracks) it will stay top of my playlist longer than Broadcast did.

and i feel there are standout tracks, so if youre gonna follow the advice from the first review, and download a few tracks first, i recommend

Hit The Ground
Be Careful What You Wish For
Just the Tip

I think those 3 tracks cover the spread of the album and will provide a good idea of what to expect from the full 16 tracks (18 japan bonus)
