Soul Survivors Vol.2: 25 Years of the Wigan Casino/40 Northern Soul Anthemsby: Various Artists Release Date September 07, 1998 Whilst being criticised as overly pop-soul this collection is by far one of the best entry points for those looking to start explorations in to the complex world of Northern Soul. For those trying to figure out what defines Northern Soul this CD and its Volume 1 companion sets the scene, with numerous and oft covered orginals. This volume 2 was a partly inspirational for me to start my own "northern soul" band Mr M and The All Nighters based out of Vancouver. The other inspiration being the book "Soul Survivors - The Wigan Casino Story" and a meeting with Russ Winstanley in 2002 at a high school reunion [Russ was the hired DJ]. |
