Sandwiched between the superior studio works of "Beautiful Vision" and "A Sense Of Wonder", 1983's "Inarticulate Speech Of The Heart" is an often overlooked, little played or mentioned item from Van Morrison's extensive library of recorded work. The ambience to this album is generally low level, the first few tracks alternating between laid back cuts like "Higher Than The World" and some appealing but low key instrumentals. The highlights are "Irish Heartbeat", "The Street Only Knew Your Name" (although a far better version appears on the rarities collection "The Philsopher's Stone"), "Cry For Home" and the epic paean to the romantic poets, "Rave On John Donne" - semi-growled by Morrison in his best Belfast brogue - "rave on thou holy fool". ...
