Ain't No Saintby: John Martyn Release Date September 01, 2008 Although at first glance this luxuriously appointed box-set appears to retread old ground, John Hillarby, the compiler, has really pulled out the stops and unearthed some real gems here. Discs 3 and 4 are all unreleased live versions but the real nuggets are the unreleased studio songs dotted about on discs 1 and 2. How John Martyn or his record label could have left the sublime "In The Evening" off Solid Air is a mystery beyond mortal comprehension. I would go so far as to say that this box would be worth it just for that one song. Hear it and weep. |
