Not one for the light-hearted, this film is so well made.

It touches on the quite un-known horrors of the women made to work for the rest of their lives, due to "crimes" such as being raped, and or having an illegitimate child in Catholic Ireland. It very realistically portrays the hard-ships they are put into, and really does make you re-address Nuns!

After I watched this film, I actually cried my eyes out for 20 minutes - I just really felt for these women. I felt sorry and helpless for what so many women all these many years ago had had to deal with in silence. Alfie is simply a walking penis. He thinks with it, eats with it and dies with it - he thinks with his head not his head. He has no notion of the pain and suffering he causes. This men like many simply does his thing. End of.

But he is not the only one at 'fault'. These women are not children. They know what sex and pregnancy mean, etc. Alfie does not rape them. They partake in his fantasy. Maybe humdrum lives are the reason.

This is simply a life mixing up the gene pool. I like too the song sung excellently by Cilla Black and which portrays Alfie's ignorance - what's it all about, Alfie?

Get Smart [2008]

Get Smart is good fun. It never takes itself too seriously and has a good mix of action and comedy. There are some great setpieces, a few fantastic lines and the cast is very impressive. There's also a great bit during a symphony concert that had me in fits of laughter.

Great light entertainment.

Having finally watched this classic film, I was suprised just how good it was. Not only did it capture the sexual Zeitgeist of the 60's it has proven remarkably (and ominously) prescient in depicting what 'gender equality' might mean regarding sexual relations.

Anne Bancroft is wickedly delicious in the role(reversal) of the scheming, older sexual predator. What young man could say no to her? Especially a man as unsure and sexually inept as the Dustin Hoffman character. And when he does say no, she simply falsely accuses him of rape.
