the most influential and seminal work to come out of hollywood on modern day warfare .
it is both stunning and philosophical with a very pluralistic look at the vietnam conflict where it has no sentimental observations about the victims but just a non chalant attitude to the protagonists who are involved in war as a casual everyday necessity.
it is neither patronising nor glorifying just seeking to express the perceived truth from the makers viewpoint and it reaches a celestial height both creatively and artistically .
matthew modine gives a great performance but the limelight is stolen by the cameos and short -lived but memorable characters played by a terrific cast of gifted actors .

I bought this DVD on the strength of previous reviews. It is humourless, ponderous and without wit. Drag queens who never get out of drag are not funny; neither is the plot.

One of the best films I've ever seen. I first caught up with it late one night in the 90's and have been itching to watch it gain ever since. I found the content realistic and with little censorship made me face up to what really went on in the 1800's rather than being pampered with the traditional Hollywood take on events.

After the original Jurassic Park, this is something of a disappointment. The storyline involves Ian Malcolm returning to the land of genetically-created dinosaurs to find scientists and a big game hunter taking an unhealthy interest in the place.
It has to be said that the dinosaurs look great, and that there are several gripping moments. But unfortunately the wonder and the awe of the original film have gone. This is just a big-budget no-brainer. There are gaping plot-holes, the characters do things for no better reason than to move the film on to the next set-piece, Malcolm is now just a parody of his former character and far too much of the film is played for laughs. The 'disappearance' of the boat crew is just ridiculous and the 'rampage' at the end is a tame, ... Read More:

One of these films that are so intricate that you seem to lose the line along the road, especially since the road is slightly tortuous and at least in the high sierras. It is well played and acted. It is well set and shot. It is well produced and edited. It's just that the story is too complicated for anyone to be able to get all the truth out of the marsh, all the light out of the pitch, all the fun out of the nunnery. One woman who is both desired and feared by at least three men and two of these three men are wanted by all kinds of American or Mexican polices and the third man in question is a local cop. Simple indeed. They have microphones and voice-catchers everywhere. They have binoculars and cameras everywhere. They see and hear and know everything and yet they get fooled like kindergarten ... I have to say, I really, REALLY, enjoy this film. Sure it ain't art, and after Schindler's List, that may be considered a bit of a disappointment for critics and followers of Spielberg, but boy is this film great fun and not only that, the film follows its own sense of fun too. Check out T-Rex destroying San Diego and the homages thrown throughout to the Godzilla movies as well as a cameo from the film's scriptwriter being eaten. I'm sorry, but for me this is representative of what going to the movies is sometimes about. Having a fun time. I'd almost go out on a limb and say it was better than the first film.
Okay that may be a bit strong, but I find there so much more to enjoy here. As much as I love the first film, there is a wee bit of sentimentality about it. Having the child hater turn into ... Read More:

The first film was highly succesful and deservedly so. It never really required a sequel and this film, although not that bad, was never going to approach the standards of the first. Its strong in places but in the last half hour, comes dangerously close to stalling. There's something about a T-Rex running through the streets of a city that you just can't take seriously, and in this part of the film, it approaches B movie standards.
