This is a depressing and miserable movie right up to the point where the Daddy gets shot and killed by a bank robber. At this point my 7 year old got up and walked out of the room saying "I dont like this film, I dont feel safe now". No matter what the end message is, why did Disney think that guns are OK in a Christmas movie for children? Only in America, eh.

There was a type of British comedy film which they were careful never to send over to the States. I suspect it was because in their hearts they knew that some time in the future Masterpiece Theater was going to do more for America's image of Britain than Churchill, the Tudors and Noel Coward would do rolled into one. And these comedies would make Masterpiece Theater unbelievable. These were comedies that were just as brash and broad as Coward's diction was clipped and upper class. This film has got to be an all time classic and also the biggest tear jerker ever to be made. Ive seen this film hundreds of times and it still makes me cry. The actors are amazing and the little boy gave such an award winning performance. I think its one of the best films EVER!!!

As I have never seen the version referred to in other reviews on here, I can't comment on the effect of the removal of the ticker tape intros to various scenes. However, the film as it stands i would give 5 stars; tense, thought provoking, well acted, tightly directed and generally very entertaining. The quality of the video could be slightly better (the film seems too dark in some places) but the film itself is top notch.

The Killer Elite [1975]

UNCUT magazine called this a forgotten classic and awarded it 5 stars. I bought the dvd and in this writers opinion this 1975 movie is a so-so effort from Peckinpah which deals with a CIA agent (Caan) doublecrossed by his turncoat former partner (Duvall). The espionage theme is an interesting change of pace, but the film has a detached feeling and lacks the personal touch of Peckinpah's better work. The action scenes are well executed, however i was confused after the first 30 minutes of the movie when kung-fu fighters appear from nowhere and attack each other in an airport. There are more silly plot developments, and there is also silly comedy which seems out of place. This is not a decent action film; it is sub-par for Peckinpah.

A squeals go this is quite good, Yul Brenner only makes what could be said as a cameo appearance possibly to give the film a bit more star status maybe, I fell for the same trick with Steven Segal in Executive Decision.

What I did like about this film was there was more of a backstory, "What is Future world" , "Who is behind it" etc rather than robots going mad as this film was more of a Thriller than Westworlds Horror, unfinished business.

After seeing Westworld the viewer was left wondering what happened in the parks other worlds,as we only get a quick glimpse of Medival world so it was nice to have a revisit so to speak.

Overall if you liked Westworld, you will enjoy this.

Each year my family all hope that this film will be back on the tele so we can all curl up on the sofa and have a good happy cry. It is such a lovely happy ending story and a film that brings a cheer to the heart, especially when christmes is getting you down a bit!
