The Flight Of The Phoenix [1965]

starring: James Stewart, Richard Attenborough, Peter Finch, Hardy Krüger, Ernest Borgnine
directed by: Robert Aldrich

Release Date May 03, 2004
After first seeing this film at school film club aged 9 I've watched it everytime it appears on tv the final scenes trying to start the engine still bring tears to my eyes. The whole film builds up to this climax and it never fails. Every cast member hits the spot. Looking forward to it being on Blu-RAy.

Cape Fear [1962] (REGION 1) (NTSC)

starring: Gregory Peck, Robert Mitchum, Polly Bergen, Lori Martin, Martin Balsam
directed by: J. Lee Thompson

Release Date September 18, 2001
The intense 1962 thriller stars Gregory Peck as Sam Bowden, a lawyer who is stalked by ex-con Max Cady (Robert Mitchum). It seems Peck withheld evidence in Cady's trial, and by doing so, helped send him to prison for years. Now Cady's out, and wants to get even by hurting Sam's wife (Polly Bergen) and daughter. They hide in a house boat moored in Cape Fear, knowing Cady will do anything to get revenge.

Gregory Peck is outstanding as the dedicated attorney and desperate family man. Mitchum is so creepy and slimy in this film you'll be breathless watching his performance, which surely is one of his best. Every ounce of him seethes with hatred and evil. Polly Bergen and Lori Martin, as the daughter, are convincingly terrified as the ... Read More:

It Should Happen to You [1954] (REGION 1) (NTSC)

starring: Judy Holliday, Jack Lemmon, Peter Lawford, Michael O'Shea, Vaughn Taylor
directed by: George Cukor

Release Date January 13, 2004
While hardly in the 'Born Yesterday' or 'Marrying Kind' category of cinematic excellence, 'It Should Happen to You' is still marvellous fun. Garson Kanin wrote the script which is always reassuring, but it is so fluffy that it is almost nonexistent. Wonderfully naive, eternally hopeful and delightfully vivacious Judy Holliday is the luckless model who rents an enormous billboard space at Columbus Circle on Manhattan to advertise her name. A satire about the need to be famous for fame's own sake, a diagnosis for an illness which is all to wellknown in this age of reality shows, but it doesn't really go anywhere in the context of the film. Lemmon delivers a rather shaky debut performance, and Lawford is his usual charming, lascivious self.
