This is a great movie `cause it has a little something for everyone. I watch it with my boyfriend (who is pretty reluctant to anything too "christmassy"), because I want to see as many christmasmovies as possible in december, and this is one out of a few he is willing to watch with me. It`s funny and entertaining enough to keep him sitting still, and it also has enough christmas spirit to make me happy! :)

The thing which is perhaps most horrifying about this movie is that the majority of the racist points made by the main character ring true. His intelligence, or more correctly the intelligence of the writing, means he can articulate well and promote his opinion convincingly. He sells his perspective and it is easy to understand how youngsters, or those who are perhaps lost in the world could be taken in.
I've read criticism from one reviewer (Soru Takahashi) that the transition from the old bitter, hate-driven Derek to the new one is under developed and the younger brother is all too willing to accept the new Derek without question. I agree with this. However, I don't believe it detracts from the credibility of the movie as much as Soru ... Read More:

I have loved the score nearly all my adult life, and even though it's a young mans film, I cannot be prejudiced being over 40.One of my parents was of that ilk when younger, and I can only be thankful that the unusual cigarettes were 10-15 times weaker then they are now, and aforementioned parent didn't develop schizophrenia, however, I digress..I can't see how they could have made a better film, what with wastrel hippies and so forth, and Treat Williams is a treat, as are most of the cast, and the music is in the top three of all musicals however staid they might have been in comparison..I just feel that the plot is a bit thin..glorious music, especially if you havn't heard it before, thin plot..an adorable film if your in your late teens and twenties, but ... I can only echo what other reviewers have said about this movie. Hotwire complains that it isn't in the same league as Hot Shots. Well, that's right, it's a totally different kind of movie. Hot Shots is built on the continual visual gags and movie piss-takes that have been apparent since Airplane, and include Top Secret, Naked Gun, Spy Hard, Dracula - Dead And Loving It, and a million and one other Zucker and Zucker movies. To compare this film with Hot Shots would be like comparing Psycho with Scream - they're both horrors but they aren't meant to be in any way similar.
This movie is one of the John Hughes feelgood films, and plays on the fact that Chevy Chase, as everyday hero Clark W Griswald, is what American and English kids find more embarrassing than ... Read More:

Peter O'Toole is hysterical in this film, and quite easily, is the glue that holds it together (contrary to popular opinion). While this film suffers its share of problems, (such as a few holes in the plot, a little shoddy acting here and there) it makes me laugh as few other movies have. O'Toole's drunken wisdom and fights with his drunken, ghost-talking mother are great. Steve Guttenberg does fine, Daryl Hannah is okay. The Irish country side is lovelyand haunting (incidentally, the movie was filmed in a castle in Limerick,Ireland, where Frank McCourt, author of Angela's Ashes grew up); the set ofthe castle itself is the stuff that fairy tales are made of. The effort that the staff makes to haunt the cynical guests is great, in particular the Lady Godiva/Broggan Banshee fiasco. ... Read More:

This film really does look in to the shock and numbness of loosing a loved one so suddely especially in the order of rape and violence. which must be a horrible way to die.
however i must admit that this film when i first saw it had me on the edge of my seat and made me much more aware of how careful i had to be when answering the door and that attacks can even happen in broad day light. this film is also very good although the ending is a little bit predictable. Also the first film i have ever seen with keifer suthurland in it.
