Memory told me this was a dissappointment, many criticise Geldorf's performance - well what else was he supposed to do except act like a screwed up depressed individual, which I think he did well (no offence Bob - I'm backing you on this). I really enjoyed this film after a break of numerous years, some excellent moments visually and aurally, well packaged, and the soundtrack is to dream for - wonderful sound. I found this a satisfying disc and probably now prefer it to the CD. One gripe - the repackaging suggests that the Limited Edition disc is an improvement on the standard version, it isn't ! They seem to me exactly the same - but the packaging in the Limited Edition is much superior and just about justifies buying it.

This is excellent entertainment. Unfortunately, being part of the 'GOM' brigade ourselves, we do not own a DVD player - why isn't this item available on a video?

The reviews on this DVD seem to be from the Live Aid DVD available elsewhere. This DVD is "Queen Rock Montreal & Live Aid", the Live Aid bit lasts around 15 minutes and is Queen's set in the afternoon and Brian and Freddie playing "Is this the world we created?", there are also the odd interview and some rehearsal footage here, these bits however should be seen as "extras", the main event is the 2 concerts filmed in Montreal in 1981.
Any one who is a Queen fan, probably has the "We Will Rock You" video or DVD, well this is the exact same film, but the quality in High Definition is astounding. The band apparently did not enjoy making this, they also did not own it, apparently they now do, and this HD DVD is a Queen Production. ... Read More:

I don't think so. I only gave it 1 because I couldn't give it 0. After all the hype and publicity surrounding his solo career I was interested to see what all the fuss was about. Not being a Floyd fan, (you had to be out of your bonce on mandrax or similar to get off on their early stuff) the words "Turgid" and "Overblown Hype" seem to fit quite well.
I write this as a warning to other rock music fans who are expecting some 5 star sounds, don't go near it with a muddy stick.
I've always considered the legend that is Dave Gilmore to be another of the "in the right place at the right time brigade" like many other mediocre but overrated artists DG isn't a particularly good guitarist - competent is about as far I would go - but ... Read More:

I only bought this dvd for the full 20 minute blistering set from queen, which as history will tell you were the best band of the day by miles. As for U2 I actually thought overated, they only perfomed 2 songs in there set, unlike queen who fitted 6 in by not overkilling the numbers, and performing it in a medley which was the whole idea a lot of bands forgot was to maxamise and utilate your time the best way possible, not boring the audience. Definatly the sound at wembley has been polished, unfortuntly the american contribution isn'nt too briliant with very poor audio sound indeed apart from the maddona set which was well mixed. However let's not lose sight that buying this dvd will save lives, even its not the most polished of concerts, all to a good cause nonetherless.

Don't make the mistake of thinking this is a recent film, just because the DVD was released in Jan '06.
This has a frighteningly young Bob Geldof, in a part that must have killed his acting ambitions (at least Africa can be grateful). Sadly his wooden performance isn't saved by the plot which is ridiculously implausible (snooker hall "bum" enters world championship) or performances by his co-stars as Ray Winstone, Phil Daniels etc... are reduced to bit parts.
It is not intentionally funny, and you have to laugh at it or cry that you've wasted your cash.
If you're over 35 then you may get a bit nostalgic for the 80's, but it just made me sad I wasn't a teenager again!
