Watch this film let your children watch this film and let your grandchildren watch this film....i could go on. Timeless and brilliant. Need i say more.
Release Date March 22, 2004
I saw this film as a child when I was about 5 and we taped it so I watched it many times before it wore out and then I just forgot about it.
Now 20 years on I was buying the Wizard of Oz for my two children when I saw this and I couldn't believe it, even the cover brought back memories of the film. The dvds were a christmas present but I couldn't wait so as soon as they arrived, I sat down with my son to watch it and it was just as good as I remember, it took me back to my childhood again.
I should mention that it is a little scary in parts, it might not be suitable for those under 7 ,but is a must see kids dvd that was very underrated, its not as sugary sweet as the wizard of oz but I think its a better interpretation of the books.

An entertaining movie but not the best muppet caper.
Gonzo is feeling different and lonely. Nothing his muppet buddies do can make him feel any better. One day he receives a message from space. His family are coming to visit!
No one believes him until the sinister agency responsible for extra terrestial life kidnap him and try to suck his brains out. Then it's muppets to the rescue and the usual capers and chaos ensue.
Great film for children of all ages!

If you know the Storyteller series it's probably the famous nine programmes made with John Hurt as the tale-teller. There is no way to adequately describe the brilliance of the films and special effects .... save to say these are definitely NOT bedevilled with CGI but are based upon the superb Henson creature workshop and advanced puppetry and animatronics.
The second DVD of Greek myths featuring Michael Gambon (and the shaggy dog) is no less excellent - but there are only 4 stories and absolutely no extras. Surely there was room for some behind-the-scenes films about the Creature Workshop? This is a totally cheapskate and unforgivable oversight - hence the loss of a star.
But all 13 films are beyond criticism and if you are ... Read More:

I recall this film well and we already own the old British release but the fact that Disney has not allowed Kermit to appear on this dvd is yet another example of how Henson's creative spirit is ultimately usurped by the market place. We all remember how much overlap there was between Henson's worlds; Fraggles would appear in Muppet films, Sesame Muppets appeared along side Fraggles and Muppets and this conveyed the most important thing in Henson's world, the family unit, his family was reflected here and what Disney and Hit should know by now, is that one product will support the other; these are old films, just waver the rights and someone take note, the Muppet franchise works at it's best when the Muppet family supports each other. These are old films, ... Read More:

Whenever you think of Jim Henson's Muppets, the fuzzy kooky variety shows and entertaining adventures of Miss Piggy, Gonzo and Kermit the Frog come to mind.
But these versatile puppets have been used for far more dramatic effects in "The Dark Crystal," an exquisite little fantasy story that happens to be entirely populated by puppets. Not a live person in sight, from start to finish. Henson and Brian Froud conjured up a gloriously detailed world -- full of fantastical flora and fauna, crystalline castles and strange creatures -- and wrapped it around a solid coming-of-age story.
On another world, there are two strange races that appeared one thouysand years ago -- the enormous, gentle, peaceful Mystics, and the nasty, vulture-like, ... Read More:

I bought this last year after I found out the UK version had the original cut. The stupid north american version had alot of cut scenes and well being that this is one of my fav xmas specials I didnt want to pay 50$ for a crappy dvd, so I bought it here...This is one of the first xmas specials I remember watching as a kid so it holds special meaning, but the greatest thing about this xmas special is that its funnier now that I get the adult humor...

I was about 4 years old when i first watched the Greek myths series, and i cannot believe how good these episodes still are!! Theseus and the minotaur is still incredible, and the scene where Ariadne curses theseus for abandoning her is brilliant - if for no other reason than the language is great! "You Gods who watch all things! Hear my cries! Mark my tears! Let the sky fall on him! The sea swallow him! The earth drown him! He abandoned me!!" - Well they do say that hell hath no fury like a woman scorned! But nonetheless, THE most literate curse youll ever hear.
Now, i was very young when i saw this, but actually it was never an issue coz the language is literate, yet simple enough that children can understand it. They should not be deprived of hearing these ... Read More:
