This is classic stuff worth getting alone for the 'Getting Sam Home' feature length film from Xmas 1983. This was the first feature length film of a sitcom to be made for TV. Shows such as Only Fools and Horses later followed this trend with their own Xmas feature length specials.
If you like classic BBC comedy like Steptoe and Son, Dad's Army etc then this is a must buy ...

From a dark dingy prison comes a show you can watch endlessly - and actually feel a warmth towards the main character - a common thief!
That takes good writing, but most importantly great actor's - enter Barker and Beckinsale - a perfect combination. They work so well off of each other, a great testimony to Ronnie as he had the same ifinitey with David Jason in Open all hours.
Release Date September 30, 2002
More from Fletcher as he uses all his cunning to score "little victories" and make his lot in Slade as easy as possible (Harry Grout allowing of course!).
Release Date March 05, 2007
What is the point of issuing the 7th and 8th series when it is impossible to purchase 5 and 6? Surely there is something wrong somewhere when those distributing these DVDs do not even make any attempt once issued to keep them in stock for any reasonable period of time?
Surely the Beeb themselves can intervene?

All potential new comers to the comedy scene would do well to use this as a training exercise in how important script writing, comic timing, delivery and atmosphere are to making a true timeless classic.
Watch and learn, but if you have no interest in comedy writing yourself, then just watch and laugh - even more fun!!!

I grew up watching this wonderful programme and have been watching them all on UK gold and Drama, which has revived my love for the show,Hence my decision to buy all the box sets, being a fan of The Office,Peep Show,Seinfeld,Curb etc, Its weird that I love this show too but its so easy on the eye and the acting impeccable,I think the glory years were with Brian Wilde as foggy and Danny O`dea as Eli and the simply brilliant Bill Owen as Compo, much missed, but all in all this programme is an all time classic and hope it will go on and on forever, and being an actor I would give my right arm for a role in it,if only to spend some time in the beautiful Holmfirth and to meet Peter Sallis,a living legend...Buy this you wont be disappointed.
Release Date December 26, 2008
The series numbers on dvd will be different as from a certain series, when shown in america it was split in half. it went from 12 to 6 episodes. so it meant the numbering of the series for the dvds has followed how they did it. meaning they do not run the same way as they would have done. so 13 and 14 would be from seires 12 and 13 in england while in america it is 13 and 14. so there is only one missing the pilot.

I love Ronnie Barker, I think the man is a comedy genius. I will sit down and watch anything with him in it. I had all the Porridge DVDs and was very, very happy when this became available. Good to hear that the Two Ronnies will back on our screens this year too as it should gain a new audience of younger viewers like me!
Release Date April 14, 2003
Another BBC 'from small to big screen' film from the 70s which saw many sitcoms of the era go for it such as 'The Likely Lads' & 'Are You Being Served?' Among others.
What makes this one stand out is that its just the best out of the lot.
The writing & acting are combined perfectly to create a viewing that has the humour constant throughout. The legendary Ronnie Barker continues to cement himself as an icon of British comedy as Fletcher which helps make this film stand out.
As with most sitcom films the situation is on a grander scale, having Fletcher & Godber stumble upon a prson break attempt & are forced to escape as well, which then forces the dynamic duo having to break back in to Slade Prison, while trying to avoid Fulton Mackay who's ... Read More:

There has been said enough about this truly magnificent movie, so I only want to post a technical remark.
I received the DVD yesterday and it works perfectly well on my Region 2 DVD player.
Interesting enough the movie started with Japanese language (Text and subtitles) activated, so I think it recognized the region settings of my player and switched automatically to Japanese (region 2).
