DragonBall Z: Season Three (REGION 1) (NTSC)

starring: Sean Schemmel, Linda Young, Chris R Sabat, Stephanie Nadonly, Sonny Strait
directed by: Daisuke Nishio

Release Date September 18, 2007
This is it: The 33 Episode long Frieza Saga, featuring Piccolo's return, Vegeta realising he is not the legendary "Super" Saiyan and Gohan coming of age, as well as tons of fighting against the seemingly invincible Frieza. The action takes place place on distant planet Namek, which is now almost devoid of life, due to events in Series Two but there are lots of scenes of King Kai's Planet with Tien, Yamcha and co (moreso than Season two happily) and Earth.

This is a very good saga, there are some great fights spread across the first two Discs as well as tons of characterisation with Vegeta. It falters slightly in Disc 3 which is 6 episodes of Frieza VS Goku, it doesn't get interesting until he begins to form the Spirit Bomb. Disc ... Read More:

Dragonball Z Season two takes of were season one ended. The box set contain both the Namek and Captian Ginyu Saga's containing 35 episodes on six disks. The whole of the namek saga has been remastered with new dialouge for each character and a whole new music track as heard in Season One. As the set moves onto the Ginyu Saga, Bruce Faulconer's sountrack takes place, replacing the new funimation music with the old. This can been seen as an advantage as Bruce Faulconer's music is more popular throughout Dragonball Z fans. Also as the set continue's through the Ginya saga, dubs, such as Goku's have been left untouched leaving the old dialouge from 1999 which are not so good. Just like season one the original japenese music can be played with English ... Read More:

Blue Gender - Vol. 1 - Episodes 1 To 3 [2000]

starring: Chance Munsterman, Kenji Nojima, Houko Kuwashima, Chinami Nishimura, Masatake Ginga
directed by: Koichi Ohata, Masashi Abe, Ryôsuke Takahashi

Release Date June 17, 2002
Blue Gender is a show that I have recently re-watched and my original opinion of it has changed somewhat.

I saw it originally when it was shown on Sci-fi channel with Nadesico and Evangelion. I hadn't seen Nadesico before and really wanted to see it and was looking forward to watching Evangelion again having previously seen it on VHS. I knew very little about Blue Gender and when I watched it I didn't take a great deal of notice of it. I enjoyed it but nothing special.

Watching it again in isolation I realised that I had formed the wrong opinion of Blue Gender. I know it isn't as well known or revered as shows like Evangelion or Nadesico but Blue Gender is incredibly well written.

The basic plot line of Blue Gender ... Read More:

it was seeing these three episodes that led to me purchasing the series on dvd.
This series is superb, featuring excellent mech design and has characters that actually interact (unlike other series', mentioning no names...)
This series will batter at your expectaions, throwing away characters in a few seconds, leaving you briefly shocked at the suddeness of their slaughter, and confound your expectations, letting characters that you would have expected to be saved die as one of the blue (strange alien creatures that have invaded earth to fold humanity up into little green balls -no joke- so that they can later return to feed. Oh yeah, and i believe they also eat anything, and tend to burst out of the ground or through walls...) flashes past like ... Read More:

Kiddy Grade - Vol. 3

starring: Jeff Johnson, Jeff D. Johnson, Gou Aoba, Brice Armstrong, Laura Bailey
directed by: Keiji Gotoh

Release Date October 04, 2004
Kiddy Grade is not very well known but it should be. Those who like Gunsmith cats and Charlies Angels should take a look at this DVD. Oh and anime fans as well. There are no over the top 'anime faces' plenty of action and great characters all set in space. So far each epsiode focuses on a different mission that the two main characters Eclair and lumiere have to deal with. However, under all the hype and glamour...something isn't quite right...there is something out of place. As the last epsiode on this dvd will tell you, there is something more disturbing going on under the skin.
Highly recommended.

Be Yourself! [1930] (REGION 1) (NTSC)

starring: Robert Armstrong, Gertrude Astor, Fanny Brice, George Pat Collins, Budd Fine
directed by: Thornton Freeland

Release Date September 04, 2007
Fanny Brice was of course played by Barbra Streisand in "Funny Girl".This film gives us the rare opportunity to see what she was like in "reel" life. She has a warm personality that comes over though all the years. However she was clearly better suited to the stage than the screen. After a couple of early talkies she abandoned the screen and went back to the stage and radio. She did however appear in a few supporting parts notably in"The Great Zigfield"Her radio performances as "Baby Snooks" are not particularly funny.
However if you are interested in early talking pictures in general or Fanny Brice in particular the you will not be diappointed by this film.
