Alive is a true story of a plane crash that happened in the Andes mountains in South America in October 1972. 45 Uruguayans were on their way to Chile for a rugby match. The passengers were made up of the players and some family members. Only 16 survived their ordeal and it was a miracle that they did.

This story is (unfortunately) famous for the fact that the survivors ate parts of their dead comrades in order to live. That instinct for survival shouldn't overshadow what was truly a remarkable tale of human endurance: these people survived a plane crash, a devastating avalanche and 72 days 11,000 feet up a mountain in Winter.

First off, I'll throw out an opinion of mine which some may agree with: Horror films set in the future/space just aren't scary. Oh sure, you'll get one every now and then which is shocking and horrific in its imagery (Event Horizon springs to mind), but unfortunately this film isn't one of them.
The main problem is this: We don't live in the future. We don't live in the technical dytopia in which many of these films are set, and thus the horrors inflicted upon the protagonists will never happen to us. The suspension of disbelief is non-existent.

That said, lack of contextual horror is not the only thing wrong with this film. The acting is dire, as is the CGI.
The plot is interesting, yet the actors cannot carry it off well enough ... Read More:

If you know anything about the Mafia or Joseph Bonanno's life you will enjoy this film, but if your expecting 'The Godfather' do not watch it as you won't like it. This film is about the early years of Joseph Bonanno's rise to power, from when he was a young child to when he was made Don Bonanno. The film does not show his later years e.g the feuds inside the Commission or his retirement to Tucson, Arizona.

I advise you only watch it if you have a true interest in the Mafia, not just 'The Godfather' films or 'Goodfellas'.

i found myself this afternoon sitting on the sofa as the rain poured down cosily outside, and i needed a good film to get me into a snug saturday mood. However i was wrong to even look at this film, i suppose this must be the reason the film is going for such a cheap price, it was pathetic, the storyline was weak and i didnt understand a word of the thing. Next time i'll make sure i watch a good b&w film as that way i can be sure i wont waste my time.

This film is excellent, It's about the the most "Black" comedy I've ever seen and, as a friend said, allmost plays like a stage production especially at the end. The Tarantino connection is that before he was famous he met the director Reb Braddock at a festival were braddock had a short film about a woman who cleaned up after murders and is obsessed with death, and Tarantino later on used the same principal with the "Mr Wolfe" story in pulp fiction, and also in the cab with bruce willis scene. So as a return favour to braddock he decided to produce this feature length story from the original idea of braddock's. However the Tarantino link doesn't end with that.
