Batman - The Movie [1966]

starring: Adam West, Burt Ward, Lee Meriwether, Cesar Romero, Burgess Meredith
directed by: Leslie H. Martinson

Release Date October 06, 2003
There is very little I can add to the many favourable reviews this classic Dynamic Duo adventure has already received here on Amazon. This is the Batman I remember from my early teens, and will always be the real thing as far as I'm concerned!

Unless I have missed it, none of the other reviewers have mentioned the sad fact that when it comes to Adam West and Burt Ward this film is pretty much it! No sign of any of the 120 TV episodes on DVD is to be found here, or even in the U.S., nor any mention of why that might be.

The simple explanation seems to be the fact that Warner Brothers own the rights to the Batman characters whilst Fox own the actual programmes themselves! Various websites give a more detailed explanation, ... Read More:

Zulu Dawn [1979]

directed by: Douglas Hickox

Release Date January 05, 2004
A great film of the British army;s most crushing defeat. A great cast and beautifully shot on location in Africa. It recaptures the flavour of one of imperialism's follies.

Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid [1982]

starring: Steve Martin, Rachel Ward, Alan Ladd, Carl Reiner, Barbara Stanwyck
directed by: Carl Reiner

Release Date June 06, 2005
If this was the first Steve Martin film I had ever seen I would have missed some of his really good ones because I wouldn't have bothered with any others. I thought the only good thing about it was the way old films were so cleverly used to bring in many old stars that only a granny like me would recognise. This one wont be watched again.

Return To The Batcave - The Misadventures Of Adam And Burt [2003]

starring: Adam West, Burt Ward, Julie Newmar, Frank Gorshin
directed by: Paul A. Kaufman

Release Date June 13, 2005
West and Ward play themselves, in a film which combines dramatised events from their real-lives when they played the Dynamic Duo in the sixties, with a parallel plot where the Batmobile - now a retro-exhibit - is stolen by two of the actors who played villains in the original series (Frank Gorshin aka The Riddler and Julie Newmar aka Catwoman). West and Ward try to recover the Batmobile, pausing along the way to reflect on their years of stardom.

Their real-selves are played in the flashback scenes by Jack Brewer (West) and Jason Marsden (Ward). Brewer, though handsome, bears no resemblance to West, but Marsden is almost identical to the young Ward. Through this we learn the real and amusing story of how the two were chosen to be Batman and Robin, how ... Read More:

Batman - The Movie [Blu-ray] [1966]

starring: Adam West, Burt Ward, Cesar Romero, Frank Gorshin, Burgess Meredith
directed by: Leslie Martinson

Release Date July 14, 2008
Batman: The Movie is a great movie. It's from 1966 so there are old elements to it, but all in all it's a fun movie. It's not like the darker, more recent films such as Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, it's campy like the series that ran through the mid and late 60s, of which the film is based. The villains, as in the series, are brilliantly cast. The Riddler is tailor-made for Frank Gorshin, Cesar Romero's brilliant as the Joker apart from a visible moustache, Lee Meriwether puts in a great performance considering she was never in the series (Julie Newmar was filming something else) and Burgess Meredith was born to be the Penguin. Adam West and Burt Ward are humourous with lines such as "Holy Jumble! Where's the hope of the world now?" and are as serious as a film like this can ... Read More:

Sharky's Machine [1981] (REGION 1) (NTSC)

starring: Burt Reynolds, Rachel Ward, Vittorio Gassman, Brian Keith, Charles Durning
directed by: Burt Reynolds

Release Date October 20, 1998
Burt Reynolds' riposte to Clint Eastwood encroaching on his redneck comedy turf with his orangutan comedies was to make his own Dirty Harry in Atlanta-style thriller, Sharky's Machine. Originally intended for John Boorman but in the end directed by the star himself, it's an out-and-out commercial package with Reynolds a narc who gets busted down to the Vice Squad (literally - they're in the basement) who sets out to nail a mysterious crime lord who is backing Earl Holliman as the next governor. You can guess the rest, but while Reynolds tends to lose sight of the story at times he has a good eye for individual scenes and almost gets a performance out of Rachel Ward as the high-class hooker he falls for. The romantic subplot is unusually well developed (particularly the My Funny Valentine ... Read More:
