The story of Bridget Jones first began as a diary collumn in a newspaper, rose to success in book form (then it's sequel) and then finally hit the movies in 2001 with Briget played quite perfectly by the lovely Renee Zellwegger.
This modern take on Pride and Predjudice follows the female protagonist Briget Jones who decides to keep a diary of her life; unlike the Mary-Jane all too perfect characters in most stories and movies of today, Bridget is quite literally EVERY woman you've ever known.
Bridget is a 30-something urban singleton on the look for love - perhaps in the wrong places. She's an ever so slightly overweight (Zellwegger put on weight specifically for the movie) office worker who reads self-help books ... Read More:
This film is mind numbingly tedious! Plotless titilation of the profoundly indifferent.
It's absolutely implausibly far too long cobbled together nonsense appealing to feminist ideology by presenting itself as some bra burning, or in this case removing, remedy to the place women find themselves in and it just does not work on any level!!
I'm off to burn my jockey shorts and do a calender for the British Legion.

Unfortunately, this is miles away from being as good as the books or the first film. They changed the plot so they could shoe-horn Hugh Grant into the film (and a not very good fight scene with Colin Firth as well). But so much worse is the sense that Bridget has been made into a figure of fun, rather than someone who was funny because we related to her. Not funny, not romantic, even Colin Firth is less lovely in this film.

Ignore those who say that this doesn't do justice to the books - it's different, yes, but in a good way. What's the point in sitting down to watch something that's EXACTLY like the book, or complaining because it doesn't EXACTLY match what you thought it should look like? The BBC made an amazing job of what was almost impossible to film, and the cast is just perfect. Jonathan Rhys Meyers plays Steerpike with more than a touch of genius, and the chemistry between him and Fuchsia is spot-on... Everything about this is awe-inspiring; the sets, the scripts, the acting. Admittedly, Warren Mitchell's portrayal of Barquentine is more comical and capricious than the fearsome and powerful character in the book, but it works. Likewise, Irma Prunesquallor seems more ... I'd watched this series on TV last year and LOVED it! I couldn't wait for the DVD to come out as I'd worn my Series 1 DVD out, literally. I'd played it so much it went dodgy! Series 2 in my opinion, is miles better than series 1, with the characters being even more lovable, especially Ryan Sampson's character, Alex. The deleted scenes, audio commentaries and outtakes make for brilliant viewing, especially the outtakes, which are absolutely hilarious. I saw one episode of series 3 being filmed and next year's christmas special being filmed and I hope series 3 will be out soon.
The only thing that disapppointed me about the DVD was the fact that last year's christmas special wasn't on it.

I bought this movie because it was on the TV. I enjoyed it with Nanny McPhee teaching the kids some manners. Nanny McPhee stands for no foolhardiness and doesn't let the children away with any nonscense. She even tells the cook to make them soup which looks rotten and gives them measle medicine with lumps moving about in it. My favourite part was when she gave Mr Brown the fright of his life each night she kept coming to see him. The part at the begining when Mr Brown meet's Nanny McPhee, he thinks she's strange looking and almost jumps out of his skin but he invites her in reluctantly.
Mr Brown's Aunt is a nasty woman but at least she is paying the rent.
The woman who Mr Brown is forced to marry is a bit over the top and it's clear Mr Brown doesn't fancy ... Read More:

After You've Gone is a hilarious sitcom by the same writer as My Family. Great cast includes Nicholas Lyndhurst, Celia Imrie, Dani Harmer and Ryan Sampson and gets better and better each week!

This is the type of movie you can't help but enjoy. It's daft but a great spectacle, plus it has Sean Connery, good one liners and the action rocks. What more can you want?

This is an awful adaptation. It bastardizes the essence of Shelley's novel. While the novel nurtures a moral dilemma at its heart, this destroys it. (This cannot be demonstrated better than when the monster rips out Elizabeth's heart, serving as an apt metaphor for the film ripping out the heart of the text). The sympathy for the monster which Shelley really draws on is completely undercut in the film by the monster's portrayal as a cold blooded murderer wanting an unjustified amount of revenge...it ignores the reasons behind his sadness, ignoring the carefully crafted manipulation which Shelley plays with the reader's own preconceived ideas.
Among the monstrosities are the changing of the monster's final speech when Victor had died, which should have been a real climax and ... Read More:

This is a little gem, capturing the book beautifully. Although not that popular when it came out, suffering from comparison to an earlier ITV production, there is little to fault it. I watched it on TV when I was a teenager and I am delighted it is finally on DVD, as it stayed with me all this time.
