I've seen this movie several times now and I'm still fascinated by it - I'm no particular fan of George Clooney or the Coen brothers or Bluegrass music (or even of Homer), but this movie is so cleverly constructed and well acted, with multiple threads that hang and re-cross throughout the story, that each time I watch I see a connection I missed in previous viewings. Reading the other reviews I guess I must be the only ageing Blues fan out here - but Robert Johnson must be up there (sorry, down there) somewhere, smiling if he's seen it.

This must be one of the best movies ever made.
In the seventies Messrs Newman and Redford made several films together and they went together like Bob and Bing. They are ably supported by a kaleidascope of stars and boy do they pull it off. We used to say at the time, "You don't have a leading lady now - you have Robert Redford"!!!! Set in the Depression in the thirties they overcome adventures and problems to pull off a magnificent con. The sting in the tail really is a sting and would do a scorpion proud.
The younger generation are so accustomed to the predictable nonsense that is coming out of Hollywood these days, it is great to see what they were capable of pulling off thirty years ago.

A film I never tire of watching. Superb performances from Redford and Newman as they outwit the late Robert Shaw in the big con.
The film twists and turns but never bores. The cast reads like "Who's Who" and they give of their best. The script is outstanding and I'll bet this one was great fun to make.
If you have not seen it, then whatever you do, DO NOT MISS IT. You will not be disappointed.
Must be one of the top movies of all time.

Other reviewers have rightly singled out Pacino's performance as a career best, as Sonny, the twitchy eternal optimist ("We're going to make it, right?"), and also John Casale's haunting and haunted performance as Sal, the sad loner with a dog-like devotion to Sonny.
The essence of Pacino's performance is the brilliant balancing act between comedy and pathos, because he always plays the emotional truth of the moment, and lets the reaction come out of that. Improvisation is at the heart of his playing, and thirty years on it seems as fresh and "lived" as ever.
But it's also worth commenting on the superb ensemble playing in the beseiged bank between the two robbers and the bank staff held hostage. The director Sidney Lumet gives ... Read More:

This is a great film funny and entertaining, lighthearted and romantic, not to be taken seriously. Good music, good story, a real feel good romantic comedy, Burt Reynolds and Dolly Parton are both great in the lead roles. Well worth watching.

John M and Dustin H were outstanding in their roles as father and son. It is set almost identically as the stage version and manages to transfer the plays stage spectacle on to the small screen. If you're a fan of Arthur Miller then you won't be disappointed. Worth a viewing.

Having recently read and quite enjoyed King's novels Desperation and Dreamacatcher, I thought I would check out the films of the books. While Dreamcatcher was a big budget (almost $70 million) mess, with unbelievably misjudged casting and abysmally wooden acting, this TV movie gets most things right. Tom Skerritt and, especially Ron Perlman, put in good performances which gel together a solid cast.
The movie is a sensible, well written and streamlined adaptation of King's novel, and I was pleasantly surprised to find myself enjoying it. While it is no Misery, Shawshank or Green Mile, it is still entertaining in a way that the disasterous Dreamcatcher could only dream of.
Having said all that, it's still a country mile from being a genuinely ... Read More:
