When people now wonder where the BBC is going and what happens to the licence fee in a world of millions of satellite and cable channels (most of which are rubbish) let it be said that this series is the epitome of what the BBC stands for. It is supposed to inform, educate and entertain. This series does all three magnificently. The concept, the scripting, the casting, the producing, the editing - all of it is brilliant from start to finish. Another reviewer, Rob of South Shields (a Newcastle suburb) notes he grew up later than the period in which this is set - but I was a child at that time in that very same Newcastle. The emotion is all so real that it is like being punched in the stomach - the corruption, the infighting and everything that grew ... Read More:

I admit first hearing about this i remember thinking that it was an X-Men Rip-off.
I'm So Glad that i finally realised that this isn't anything like X-Men.
First off - No Silly & Easily Noticable Costumes (with a huge H or the Helix Sign splattered on them) so they are ordinary people with extraordinary gifts.
Also Quite Possibly it has a Villain scarier than Darth Vader: Sylar.
the Villain remains as a thorn in the Heroes' Side throughout the First and Second Seasons and then takes his place as the lead Villian in Season 3.
I Must Say in closing that put these story's down into several 2-3 Hour Movies and these will be better than the three X-Men Films put together.

Forget comedy movies if you want a laugh watch sitcoms instead. When watching a comedy movie what do you always get? violence?, screams?, sarcasim?, nagging, fights? yes thats what we always get but with sitcoms we seem to get a whole lot more.
With sitcoms its like a treat, we get guest stars, at least one character we can relate to, moments that will be stuck in your head forever and an awesome theme tune.
Absolutely Fabulous is the right title for this show, it has a good theme tune, the characters are all hilarious but its a shame i cannot relate to any of the characters but the show does not seem to fail to entertain me.
When i watch a comedy movie i never laugh i only ever say "awe" and "haha" but with ... Read More:

Absolutely Fabulous had been launched from a sketch Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders had written in their third series of French And Saunders in 1990. It saw Jennifer Saunders playing Edina Monsoon, a neurotic fashion designer who does very little work and constantly puts upon her poor, frustated daughter, Saffron which in that sketch was played by Dawn French.
In 1992, that initial sketch was further developed into a series of its own with this time, Julia Shawala playing Edina's daughter, Saffron. Also in the casting was Joanna Lumley as Edina's scavanging best "friend", Patsy Stone, who also is in the fashion industry but does very little work, as the case with Edina. It was interesting to see Joanna Lumley escape her usual aristocratic image in favour ... Read More:

Without reviewing this series in particular, I'm sure that everything has been said about AB FAB! For me, the best series ever to cross the English Channel! And I'm glad it did! They're so... EVERYTHING: crazy, fashion, high, drunk! A perfect script everytime, and a absolutely perfect analisis on a certain society of today, and the past ten years! A must: all the series, the GAY feature (where Serge finally appears, and with Whoppy Goldberg), and the special The Last Shout!

I love Heroes and having recently got a Blu Ray player, waited patiently for this to come out.
Ther series itself is fantastic. Some people didn't like Season 2. I agree it wasn't as good as Season 1 but I enjoyed it nonetheless. At least it tried to be different and some cool new characters were introduced.
Picture quality is good but not fantastic. There is an immense amount of detail but sometimes there is too much. I was particularly distracted by the Scenes with Niki as you can clearly see her make up.
Sound is average (poor for DTS HD). All dialogue comes from the centre speaker and although other sounds use all speakers as required, I was just as happy listening in Stereo.
Extras are patchy for Season 1. There are ... Read More:

I never thought I'd be typing this but Absolutely Fabulous Series 5 is far from good. There are some funny moments but the plots and characters have reached certain points that I think ruin the show.
Most notably, Saffy getting pregnant - The beginning of the end of the situation of this comedy. Having a child means Saffy is no longer part of that grotesque eternal triangle she unwillingly shares with Edina and Patsy. She'll be moving on with new priorities, bursting the bubble and wrecking the formula.
Secondly, everything about John, the father of Saffy's child, is just plain annoying. He is given nothing interesting to say and seems a very one-dimensional character. He's also played by a man (Felix Dexter) who is too old for Saffy and for the student ... Read More:

Though it seemed unlikely to return for another series after "The Last Shout" Christmas special from 1996, Jennifer Saunders defied everyone's expectations when she came back to our screens in September 2001 for a fourth series of anarchic and hedonistic misadventures as the notorious PR doyenne Edina Monsoon in Absolutely Fabulous.
With some old favourites in tow, like Patsy, Bubble and Mother, as well as some new faces like Edina's latest PR conquest Katy Grin, plus some star studded cameos ranging from 60's icon Twiggy through to fashion model Erin O'Connor, Series 4 of Ab Fab might not have always been as consistent as some of the previous series, but despite the critics rubbishing this and Series 5 within an inch of it's life, there are still numerous belly ... Hmmmmm.... in a plot that promises so much, how on earth did it wind up such a patchy episode? There are some great moments but all-in-all some of the humour is unfunny and silly. Whoopi's talents are totally wasted and what the hell have they done to Saffy? Despite all this, it's still fun.
