Surely reviewers such as Edna Sweetlove must realise that people actually considering purchasing DVD's of series such as Midsomer have, actually, already seen an episode (...or six...) on the box and, therefore, realise what level of disbelief suspension is required!
Midsomer is not about realism, it's about the creation of a quintissentially English stage, set with quintissentially English characters. The fact that this stageset has probably never actually existed has nothing at all to do with anything!
The creation of Midsomer is a resounding success (...how many series...?) and everyone who loves a gentle, non-gory whodunnit, wants to spend a week there (...preferably not as a victim...!) to take in the beautiful scenery, the ... Read More:

This is not a review per se, but rather a question for the Marketplace sellers: are any of you selling a copy that is Region 1 coded or multi-regional? I would be interested.
And as far as a review, I believe Sidney Poitier to be the greatest living actor. To my mind, his greatest film is "In the Heat of the Night." Rod Steiger is exceptional as the sheriff of Sparta, MS as well. "Lilies of the Field" is his best "lighter" role, and he won an Oscar for that. Two "sleepers" you might find enjoyable: "Brother John" and "A Patch of Blue." (Warning: viewing "A Patch of Blue" may require you to keep a box of tissues handy throughout the film.)

It is a real shame that John Nettle's didn't review each episode as I had expected, giving us some insight into why he chose these 4 episodes.Saying that they are a good choice.
Release Date October 06, 2003
I love watching Midsomer Murders but I have to say it's not one of the better episodes. The story is rather dull and predictable which is unusual for Midsomer Murders. The cast however, is excellent and I can't fault anyones performances - it's the story thats the problem. Out of the entire series there are only a few episodes which I did not enjoy.
Now the series is being released in very nice box sets each containing 10 episodes. However, for some strange reason this story has not been released on any of the collections. This is very annoying because now anyone who buys the box set will have an incomplete set or will have to buy this dvd on its own. A real shame.

Midsomer Murders has now been running for almost nine-years and although it has since lost one of its principal stars it shows no signs of slowing down. Based on the novels/characters created by Caroline Graham, the series focuses on family-man Chief Inspector Barnaby, brought to screen wonderfully by John Nettles (Bergerac). Paired against Barnaby’s conventional character is Sergeant Gavin Troy, a perhaps rash and naïve young policeman who has a lot to learn about the world of crime and detective work. The duo work extremely well together. The television programme I set in the fictional village of Midsomer, and although it must have the highest death count in the world, it is a tranquil, picturesque, quintessential place, inhabited by an ... Barnaby goes back to Badger's Drift, the colourful setting of the first episode "The Killings at Badger's Drit" (which is even referenced during the show) to meet the meeky Reverend Stephen Wentworth. A resident, the rich developer Richard Bayly, is diagnosed with a brain tumour and can't help organise the annual fete, scorned by Mrs Wentworth. After the meeting at the parsonage for the fete is over, Bayly is beheaded with an Indian sabre, belonging to Rev. Wentworth. So far, it has been one of the best episodes, full of colourful and frightening characters, in the tradition of Agatha Christie, such as the mild Reverend, the shrewd and battling spinster and the tormented wife of the Reverend. You can't help watching this great episode, you must see it. ... Read More:
