Mawkish to the point of being gruesome, each scene without exception is sunk by a tidal wave of faux sentimentality. The script is awful, the characters feeble. Utterly painful.

Two people reunite in hope of reforging their friendship, until it becomes apparant, they have grown their spereate ways.
This is one of those soothing films, easy on the eye with glimpses of nature, nice relaxing sound track performed by Yo La Tengo and decent lead performances in the shape of Bonnie Prince Billy and some other guy.
For many of us, we'll be able to recognise something of ourselves in each of the characters and all of us will be familiar with discovering we no longer have the same relationship with a friend we once had and not finding it easy. We are however, reminded that 'sorrow is nothing but worn out joy'.

Release Date March 04, 2008
Set against a backdrop of a Brooklyn school, this is a nice movie ostensibly about an unlikely friendship between two young teachers, one Muslim, one Jewish.
The central issue, superficially, is the question of arranged marriages, an historical and cultural tradition in both faiths, and how the bond of friendship between the two girls grow as the processes develop.
Of course the timing of such a movie is critical given the very polarised situation which currently exists in the Middle East. But there is more to it than that. We are reminded of the contrast between the unchanging requiremnts of ancient religons and the maelstrom of change within the postmodern secular American Society and the needs of children which transcend faith boundaries. ...
