Fun And Fancy Free [1948]

starring: Edgar Bergen, Dinah Shore, Charlie McCarthy, Mortimer Snerd, Luana Patten
directed by: Bill Roberts, Hamilton Luske, Jack Kinney, William Morgan

Release Date August 12, 2002
I have loved the Mickey and the Beanstalk film since I was 3 and I still love watching it (I'm 18!). It's one of the classics that I believe is underrated. The drawings and paint are stunning and the humour is there aswell (I absolutely love Herman, the narrator and Willy the giant!).

Considering it's 60 years old, it's really a fantastic Disney film that should be in anyone's collection.
It's a good, old-fashioned tale that will keep children interested and yet, as it's only approx. 30 minutes long it's short enough so as to not make them bored.

Give them a classic, rather than the a mass-produced Pixar type film!
They don't make 'em like this any more!

Like reviewer “Lenfran” I saw this as a child when it was first released and agree with everything he says in “Make mine day” and will just add a few comments.

Apparently due to a misguided sense of political correctness or whatever the lively and tuneful “Martins and the Coys” (great fun about feuding hill billy families) has been omitted, why? I saw the unexpurgated version and suffered no ill effects whatsoever.

Some of the sequences are truly beautiful, “Blue Bayou” with its wonderful subtle palette of blue is the most sophisticated animation I think I have ever seen, with “Two Silhouettes” close behind, but this is not a true cartoon as the dancers are live ... Read More:

The plot (what there is of it) contrives to have Danny and Mary, together with Virginia playe dby the very talented Dinah Shore, who's in love with Danny, and Joe, who's in love with Mary, arrive simultaneously on the same South Sea island. ...but a movie worth having for any musical lover. Great production numbers (a surprising Van Johnson--great dancing!). But the DVD--I agree with the other reviewers: image is like a downloaded MPG, sound is really, really bad. This movie is in the public domain; MGM should do a proper, 'restored' release. I would buy it immediately, because there's a lot of numbers you would want to watch over and over again. But not in this 'quality'.
