Certainly one of the greatest and most beautiful films ever made, and this is also one of the most outstanding films of modern movie making - and quite remarkable in that it was made as recent as 1987!
This gem opens like a Christmas Card, and has the appearance and style of a movie that could have been made many years ago! I remember seeing this for the first time when the only way to get to see a new movie was to rent it from a Video Store (before you could buy them) My mother and I had selected this title - not knowing why. We watched it together and you could hear a pin drop! I couldn't wait to purchase it when it came on general release!
So many of the cast is outstanding that it is difficult to name ... Read More:

The plus: The movie is pleasantly filmed in a beautiful setting of country houses in rural Italy; unconventionally overt display of sexual relationship and naturist display; true love triumphed and rewarded in the end with the joyful first-times.
The minus: flawed script, unfocused story where the journey of discovering the identity of father and resuming of youthful love is distracted to an explicit and needless anecdotes of naturist playing, love-making and sexual mind games. It is unconvincing and has little reality touch. There is also a myriad of strange yet underdeveloped characters. Directors seems could not decide on following a core storyline and instead packed the movie with large quantity of sub plots and supporting characters. ... Read More:

Peter O'Toole is hysterical in this film, and quite easily, is the glue that holds it together (contrary to popular opinion). While this film suffers its share of problems, (such as a few holes in the plot, a little shoddy acting here and there) it makes me laugh as few other movies have. O'Toole's drunken wisdom and fights with his drunken, ghost-talking mother are great. Steve Guttenberg does fine, Daryl Hannah is okay. The Irish country side is lovelyand haunting (incidentally, the movie was filmed in a castle in Limerick,Ireland, where Frank McCourt, author of Angela's Ashes grew up); the set ofthe castle itself is the stuff that fairy tales are made of. The effort that the staff makes to haunt the cynical guests is great, in particular the Lady Godiva/Broggan ... Read More:

Aha! Someone clever seems to be going around releasing some of the heavy-hitter TV docudramas and other shows from UK TV's past. Good. Well done, whoever you are.
If you like a spectacular true story of politics, justice, forensics, reportage, murder, corruption and terrorism from before the US invented it, this is for you. It has everything, and it really happened.
In 1974 one busy evening, the IRA detonated bombs in two crowded pubs in the centre of Birmingham (the real Birmingham - do I have to say 'Birmingham, England' now?) Twenty dead, two hundred injured. It was one of many similar incidents in their mainland bombing campaign. Many people and many billions of pounds were lost, but that's why terrorism is so horribly effective, and must ... Read More:

This story is about a young, Dutch landscaper, Meaner Chrome (Ewan McGregor), who plans to create an extravagant garden for Thomas Smithers and his wife (Pete Postlethwaite and Greta Scacchi). His real plan or the real motive of this garden is to bankrupt Smithers so the not-so nice James Fitzmaurice (Richard E. Grant) can seduce Smithers wife. But Chrome begins having second thoughts about completing the plan, after he becomes fascinated by Smithers daughter Theca (Carmen Chaplin). I think people who have criticized this movie are far too harsh. I found it to have an excellent story with a talented cast. The performance that I felt most touched by was Carmen Chaplin's. Her struggle to find disorder in a world that wants to have order is an interesting element to the story. ... Read More:
