My favourite Christmas film. Will is excellent in this "laugh out loud" festive comedy. Watched it in the cinema when it came out and bought the DVD. Basic storyline is baby lived in orphanage - got caught in santa's sack when he delivered presents. Got taken back my mistake to Santa's homeland. Grew up with the elves and eventually realised he was "different". Set sail to New York to find his Dad. Finds life in NYC both fun and hard to deal with. Eventually finds his dad who is on Santa's naughty list!! Bonds with his new found family - but upsets an important client of his new found dad and is thrown out. Eventually finds love and restore NYC's christmas cheer.....A feel good, christmasy, fun filled film.

Here in the U.S. this American mini series was watched by millions when first originally aired in 1976. Unfortunately, for us Americans this much loved TV series has yet to be released on DVD here. So, I ordered this release from Amazon.com UK which much anticipation.
I own two region-free DVD players and I have many DVDs from around the world that I would otherwise not be able to watch if it weren't for my player. However, for some reason -- I don't know what -- my region-free DVD players will not play these discs. In fact, one of my region-free DVD players is a new player and will play any disc I put in there but not "Rich Man, Poor Man Book I."
I did get Discs 1 and 3 to play but only momentarily. I was able ... Read More:

Loved it. Got it by accident a few years ago, watched it again last night for the first time in a year with the kids ( 8 5 and 3) and everyone enjoyed it. Stylish animation from Matt Groening...catchy tunes from Michael Stipe (including the lovely opening song "I love Valentine's Day and the 4th of July, I feel a little bit bad when Halloween has gone by..." it's just a great heartwarming story for all the family. And makes a change from all the other Christmas dross on TV. If you have kids, or even if you don't, go and buy it. Now....Go.

Elvis sings very few songs in this film but the songs he sings are all fantastic. In this film,Elvis appears at his physical peak looking incredibly handsome at 34 years of age.He was able to show his acting talents and in my opinion, shows how underated he was.He was a far better actor than he was ever given credit for. It's a light hearted film well worth 90mins of your time.A great way to relax and chill.Highly recommended as it shows an unseen side of the King.

Elf looks fantastic on blu-ray. I received the disc this morning and flicked through the movie. It's a definate improvement over the standard DVD but from what I saw it's not demo material (unfortunatley) Still I'd rate the movie 3.5/5 for picture quality which is really good. The sound is Dolby True HD which is superb. The extras seem to be presented in full 1080p (unlike the US release) I watched the trailer and started to play the making of features and the average speed was 19mps to 20+mps. If the extras were in standard def the speed would usually be between 4mps and 8mps. The extras are impressive - two commentarys, Elf Karaoke, several documentarys, deleted scenes and the trailer. It's worth noting that the picture on the cover is different ... Read More:

I expect diehard Midler fans will enjoy this remake of the 1962 version, however try as she might she can't make this work, in fact she goes way over the top on occasions, instead of Momma Rose we get Bath House Bette. Gypsy should never have been put into the hands of Disney, It's sanitised, lacks pace and just doesnt have the raucous energy required for the world of vaudeville and burlesque. Cynthia Gibb is hopelessly miscast as Gypsy Rose Lee , Dainty June and her Farmboys are far to old, Tulsa will never see forty again and the three strippers Tessie, Mazeppa and Electra considering that they are supposed to be third rate and past their sell by dates are dressed in the most elaborated and highly expensive Bob Mackie creations. It's wrong ... Read More:

John Wayne plays Cole Thornton a hired gun who turns down a job to work for Bart Jason, as this would mean fighting his old mate J.P. (Robert Mitchum). In the end he fights with J.P. and Mississipi (James Caan) against Jason.
Essentially this is virtual remake of Rio Bravo, and it isn't as good. Mitchum takes the Dean Martin role and James Cann the Ricky Nelson role. However Howard Hawks was a great filmmaker and he manages to make this a worthwhile and very entertaining movie in its own right.
John Wayne is starting to show his age in this film. He was close to 60 when it was made, and Mitchum who was 10 years younger steals the film from Wayne. The kill or cure drunk cure for J.P. is probably the best scene in the film, and Mitchum ... Read More:

Potential policeman and klutz Marvin (Rob Schneider) is always in direct competition with Sgt. Sisk (John C. McGinley) for popularity.
