This movie is considered as one of the famous 80s "Brat Pack" movies, since it featured some well-known actors and actresses of the 80s "Brat Pack", such as Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy and Emilio Estevez.
However, it is very different from their other movies, so it's wrong to think that if you liked the others, then you'll like St Elmo's Fire, too.
St Elmo's Fire is not a teen movie, it's a movie about young adults who have just left school and who are trying to find their place in the adult's world. It's about different expectations and hopes young adults have, their goals, and how they are trying to achieve them (more or less successfully). By the end of the movie they have all realized that being an adult is not as easy and great ... Read More:

I was so excited to see that my second favourite film of all time was finally getting a decent DVD treatment, yet there were no specs for the Region 2. All I could find was the Region 1 release which boasted of commentary with Judd Nelson and Anthony Michael Hall. Amazing right?
Sadly due to some nonsense or other the commentary tracks are not on the Region 2 release. But... the Region 1 is just a single disc. This one must be better, right?!
Nope. They've just put the same documentary features over onto another disc to make way for the umpteen language tracks on Disc 1 (which didn't leave any room for the original mono mix of the audio it seems, just 5.1 (not ideal for me without surround). Sigh.

In one of John Hughes' most critically acclaimed films, 5 teenagers are in detention on a Saturday and are forced to interact under the watchful eye of Principal Vernon.
After seeing Ferris Bueller's day Off and hearing friends discuss this 1985 drama, I was very eager to give it a watch, and was spoilt in one, if not the, best teenage dramas ever made.
Estevez, Hall, Nelson, Ringwald and Sheedy are today big stars in Hollywood and it's fair to say that this film pushed them towards that status in a marvellous display of teenage emotions and antics in a great enjoyable and interesting drama.
John Hughes has done it again with sharp writing, jokes and a great character driven plot that justifies the ideology ... Read More:

The Mighty Ducks trilogy is without a doubt the best sports trilogy of all time. A real happy, funny, feel-good, movie for all the family, young and old.
This movie introduced me to the world of ice hockey at a young age, and inspired me to give it a go.

Young Guns II really surprised me. ALL the actors were GREAT in this movie. I especially loved Lou Diamond Phillips and Kiefer Sutherland (of course). Emilio Estevez was wonderful and for once I didn't hate Christian Slater.
I saw the first movie, and it was okay, but I seem to get into and feel for the characters much more in the sequel--they have more depth and there's not as many, so you can focus more on the important relationships. Not to mention a core musical identity of my era named Jon Bon Jovi, who did the theme song (which had some awesome lyrics).
Release Date September 17, 2007
The script is cleverly written and there are scenes which will make you cry, make you laugh, make you shiver with excitement, and make you hate certain characters. These superbly written scenes are delivered by a perfect cast, with exceptional acting from Emilio Estevez and Lou Diamond Phillips in particular. The film focuses on the Lincoln County War, paying particular attention to the part played by the Regulators in this war. The Regulators and the few people on their side are shown in a positive light, and other parties involved are shown in a negative light. I believe this film is an accurate representation of the war and of those involved. I strongly recommend this outstanding film to everyone, whatever your interests, this film is a must see. If you ... Read More:

There's no doubt that this film is worthy of cult status, and to many this is one of those all-time-classics. For me though, it's a good film, but doesn't quite hit the mark as a great film.
Some elements of the film are beautifully done; the generic packaging of food products, the bleak urban feel, and the seemingly apathy to violence and death make for a great dystopian atmosphere. This means that although the film is filmed/set in the 1980's, it has a futuristic look to it, almost like Mad Max.
The dystopia is developed further as the main characters have little or no ambition, whenever someone discusses what they want from life it's never anything more than committing crime or becoming a `fry chef' in a fast food place. The masses ... Read More:

Excellent action/thriller/chase film. Well plotted, characters that the audience cares about and tight action scenes.
Fairly violent, but not to the OTT gratuitous extent of today's movies.
Full marks for excellent use of the night time, urban photography and locations, and the excellent setpieces such as the sewer chase. A reasonably atmospheric and gritty feel, aided by menacing performances from the likes of gang leader Dennis Leary.
Also a very good, and appropriateley tough OST (well worth purchasing in it's own right) - featuring crossover collaborations from the likes of Slayer/Ice T and Biohazard/Onyx.
Recommended if you enjoyed The Warriors or the recent Death Sentence.
