Alice Green (Meg Ryan) and her husband, Michael (Andy Garcia) are a happily married young couple, until Alice's secret drinking problem is exposed. Alice goes to rehab and when she comes home, she and Michael don't know how to act with one another without the help of alcohol.
This is a really good romantic drama dealing with the terrible ways alcoholism affects a couple and their young children. Oh, my goodness - that Andy Garcia can act and he's quite the dreamboat, too. He's so utterly convincing as the tortured husband that it makes me wonder why I haven't seen him in more leading roles. Meg Ryan, on the other hand, never convinced me she was suffering with guilt or shame or anything; her sunny smile and angelic face were always ... Read More:

There are foul deeds afoot. Probably that diabolical cabal, the “Tax the churches league.”
Gloria Mundy (Goldie Hawn) picks up a hitchhiker named Scotty (Bruce Solomon). They make a date to see a retro movie. There she hears Scotties last warning “beware of the dwarf”. Scotty is DEAD. This leads to a mystery in which people are dying and a plot ensues. The only person that believes or pretends to believe her is Detective Tony Carlson (Chevy Chase). Together they must figure out if a plot exists and what to do. Her landlord (Burgess Meredith) rephrases the threat as “Beware of the midgets…they are taking over the world” and we can not forget the sinister look on Esme’s (Shirley Python) face.

This sitcom ran from 1977 till 1981. It was created and written by Susan Harris, who also was responsible for one of my other favorites, 'The Golden Girls'.
'Soap' deals with the families of the sisters Jessica and Mary. Jessica is married to Chester Tate and has two grown daugthers: Eunice and Corinne (Corinne is actually adopted by the Tates as a baby) and also an adolescent son, Billy. Jessica and Mary's father also lives with them. He suffers from (to say the least) a slight WWII trauma. Of course, the Tate's dry witted butler, Benson, must also be mentioned.
Mary is married to Burt Campbell. Her two sons from her former marriage to gangster Johnny Dallas, also live with her and Burt. Danny: very good looking, but not too bright (at the ... Read More:

Received this DVD as a recent birthday present. Apparently when SOAP first aired in the USA, it was thought pretty racy, but I don't recall that in the UK, where it was harmless kooky Sunday night viewing for years. My family used to tune in regularly and cackle all the way through. Seeing SOAP again reminded me of that whole period. It's dated, for sure, but a lot of the show still makes me laugh out loud. There are some bravado lead performances (especially the perfectly-cast Katherine Helmond as Jessica) and the twisting, turning, ever-more ridiculous plotlines perfectly lampoon the mainstream TV soap operas both of the 1970s and pretty much of today, too. I had forgotten about the genius of Burt's self-styled invisibility, and the scenes where Chuck ... Read More:
