The thing which is perhaps most horrifying about this movie is that the majority of the racist points made by the main character ring true. His intelligence, or more correctly the intelligence of the writing, means he can articulate well and promote his opinion convincingly. He sells his perspective and it is easy to understand how youngsters, or those who are perhaps lost in the world could be taken in.
I've read criticism from one reviewer (Soru Takahashi) that the transition from the old bitter, hate-driven Derek to the new one is under developed and the younger brother is all too willing to accept the new Derek without question. I agree with this. However, I don't believe it detracts from the credibility of the movie as much ... Read More:

I saw this film as a child when I was about 5 and we taped it so I watched it many times before it wore out and then I just forgot about it.
Now 20 years on I was buying the Wizard of Oz for my two children when I saw this and I couldn't believe it, even the cover brought back memories of the film. The dvds were a christmas present but I couldn't wait so as soon as they arrived, I sat down with my son to watch it and it was just as good as I remember, it took me back to my childhood again.
I should mention that it is a little scary in parts, it might not be suitable for those under 7 ,but is a must see kids dvd that was very underrated, its not as sugary sweet as the wizard of oz but I think its a better interpretation of the books.

... that I was alive then. I love all the music in the movie and it feels very real in a unbelievable and fantastic rock and roll world.
Jason Lee is superb (as is everyone in this rich and talented cast) and the band Stillwater are so good you wish they had released a record themselves (since they did play the music and sing in the movie)
If you have somehow passed this movie over before or dont even like this music, the heart and relationships in the movie will make up for that.
This movie warrants many MANY viewings and gets better with each one.

This is simply one of the best films I have ever seen. As someone that grew up in the 70s, this brings back so many memories and to see it in all of its Blue-Ray glory is amazing! True, it's missing some of the extras from the original 2-disc relaease. However, for anybody that loves music the loss is easily made up for by the true HD sound and picture quality. A solid purchase.

I can't believe this fim has so many positive reviews, I tried to sit through it last night and gave up after an hour.
If you're expecting someting in the Reservoir Dogs mould you'll be sorely dissapointed, beacuse the film is just dire. And as for the use of language, when you can actually understand what they're saying it's just annoying.
Jimmy the Saint's love story is also a completely unecessary addition to the film, and only adds to its cheesiness.

Both "Valmont" and "Dangerous Liasons" are fabulous films. I personally prefer "Valmont". The casting for this film is fantastic. Colin Firth makes a much more charming and handsome `Valmont' who knows how to use the 'art of seduction' to his advantage. Annette Benning is a scheming and beautiful `de Merteuil'. The mood of this film is more feel-good than 'Dangerous Liasons'; it contains more playful humour and the imagery (especially in the outdoors) is amazing. With `Dangerous Liasons'; the characters (played by Glenn Close and John Malkovich) were more sinister and less likeable (I guess it depends what mood you're in). Overall: Highly recommended.
Release Date February 25, 2008
This lavish retelling of Les Liaisons Dangereuses stars Annette Benning as the Marquise de Merteuil, a nasty aristocrat who delights in manipulating those around her. She is outraged when her lover makes plans to marry the young and virtuous Cecile,(who is in love with her music teacher), so she engages the services of the notorious playboy the Vicomte de Valmont to cuckold him. Before he can do it, however, Valmont falls in love with a proper, married woman, Madame de Tourvel. Learning of this, Merteuil bets Valmont that he can't bed Tourvel, and he happily takes up the challenge.
The plot was so complex that I needed a scorecard to keep straight who was doing what to whom and why. All the action swirls around Benning's Merteuil and she's malicious and flirty ... Read More:
