North by Northwest is one of Hitchcock's great thrillers. Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint star. The mistaken identity plot plays well to Grants strengths as the man confused by the insistence of others that he is George Kaplan, the mysterious spy. The balance between thriller and comedy is very well judged. The look of this movie is the key to its success along with the many set pieces. The frantic struggle of Grant against the hood's attempts to pour a bottle of scotch down his throat conveys real violence and panic.
I Confess is better remembered for its star, Montgomery Clift, than as one of Hitchcock's great movies but it is still powerful stuff. The theme is a strong one that has been copied and adapted elsewhere. Clift's character ... Read More:

One of the most tense, gripping suspense/thrillers I've ever seen, 'What Have They Done To Your Daughters' is not the kind of film they ever show on terrestrial tv - not even in the small hours - but it is a genuinely great film. Right from the first reel it draws you in and doesn't let go. The acting is believable, the camera work is very nice, and the sense of claustrophobia that builds throughout is expertly paced...an underrated classic, don't pass up the opportunity to own this one. 5 stars

This current issue of Senso is truncated as other reviewers have noted. However, what is equally unacceptable is the parlous state of the film stock used for this transfer to DVD. The Technicolor, in the original, was sumptuous, rich and saturated just as Visconti and the Technicolor consultants wanted. He was a wizard at giving his colour films a painterly quality that enhanced the story line in a seductive and thrilling manner. The eye was entranced, the cutting was impeccable and the whole mood evoked was the sum of many parts including the cinematography. This current DVD is faded with a colour consistency that is annoyingly haphazard and wavering. The cuts 'enhance' this travesty version of a masterly movie that is much loved by a host of frustrated devotees. ... Read More:
'Strangers On A Train' is one the greatest Hitchcock Movies.
Staring Robert Walker (who for some reason makes talking of murder sound 'sexy') plays 'Bruno Anthony' - a rather 'unbalanced' man to say the least, and who has an equally 'dotty' mother played by the marvellous Marion Lorne (remember the 'dotty' aunt in 'Bewitched'?)
He meets a famous Tennis Player, 'Guy Haines' on a train and speaks of 'switching' murders - the disposing of two different people each of them could do without, but 'Haines' does not take him seriously - bigger fool him!
This also stars Patricia Hitchcock (daughter of Alfred) who, though has a somewhat smaller role, nevertheless makes a lasting impression.

I have a feeling that this Hitchcock is an underated movie. Harly anyone seems to know of it when I mention it but I haven't stopped talking about its brilliance all week! It is an amazing film, filmed in one room, based on a play (which is very obvious because the actors perform in a specific way that would only be linked to a play i.e. standing so that they are all facing the front with no backs facing the audience) which is of course based on the Leopold-Loeb case of 1920's America. James Stewart is as usual comical and quick- thinking, with John Dall and Farley Granger as the two murderous men, who decide to commit the perfect crime by murdering their friend and putting him inside a chest in their front room, then inviting all his friends and family round for tea. I first saw this film when I was a child and never forgot the wonderful, melodious music. Fifty years on, Frank Loesser's score is just as good. The rest of the film, however, doesn't hold up as well.
Danny Kaye can usually be depended on to turn in a good performance, but here he seems to be half asleep. His acting, and that of his associates, lacks vitality. The obviously artificial scenery and studio sets does nothing to dispel the rather languid mood. But the ballet sequences are effective and rather interesting, considering this is a film for children.
'Hans Christian Andersen' is a product of its time, so if you're nostalgic for the old films and hummable tunes, this one's worth watching.

'My Name is Nobody'is a much overlooked classic, as good as any Leone helmed film (he apparently had alot of input into Nobody).
Spencer and Hill are ALWAYS great together in films, and never better than in the two 'Trinity' films in this set.
'The Genius' is probably the weakest film, it seemed to have too much plot there, but Terence Hill is a joy to watch as usual.
