On the one hand, Misery is an excellent film. Many - if not all - of the characters are well cast, and very true to the book.

However, it has far less depth than the novel. For example, the book being written inside the book/film actually has a great deal of reference to the situation the author finds himself in, obviously basing the book around his life as Annie Wilkes' hostage.

In summary, read the book first. The film is pretty epic on its own, but it could have been so much better with the addition of a few extra scenes depicting the content of the novel being written, which would have shown more of Annie Wilkes' persona and added a great deal of irony to the situation.

Still, buy it.

Love cheers and have got all 6 seasons so far but when is season 7 being released? Its been 10 months since this release and in the states they are about to release the ninth season on dvd.I dont own a multi region player,i have always bought region 2 and i am going to be SO annoyed if they dont release the other seasons! This was written in March 2008 so apologies if they are out when you are reading this but as of today they are not!

As a usually emotionally constipated UK resident, film viewer, I should sneer at the marshmallow sentiments, home spun morality, and all round apple pie consistency of this Capra'esque story ....... but I love it!

Michael J Fox is just so likeable, that it is difficult not to root for him, and Julie Warner is not just a simpering local girl who is destined to end up with an essentially decent but uninspiring local guy. The early scenes remind me of Northern Exposure (buy this it's great!) and the odd ball characters all have a back story. However, essentially it is a boy meets girl, boy and girl are attracted, boy leaves girl, and then comes back. It's no Annie Hall, but hey we all need comfort films now and again!

Outland [1981]

As many previous reviewers have said this is a remake of High Noon the classic western from the 1950's. So if you know the plot to that film you'll know the plot to this. The excellent Sean Connery is a Marshall sent to Io, one of Jupiters moons, which has a mining colony. He realises that too many workers are dying in odd circumstances and decides to find out why.

The main reasons to watch this are Connery, and the superb Frances Sternhagen as a colony medical advisor. Both give compelling performances, which compensate for the sometimes average script.

In an era when numerous classic Sci-fi and Horror films were released (Alien, American Werewolf in London and Escape from New York to name a few) this film tends to be forgotten, ... Read More:

Wow! If one word describes The Mist's ability to shock and scare the watcher then this is it. Contrary to some reviews I believe the script is very well thought out and interesting showing what happens when society breaks down and although the special effects start out a little bit on the cheap side they get better and better including a stunning sequence involving flying bugs. Unlike other horror movies it does sort of touch upon why it's happening and has an absolutely amazing ending that no-one would see coming. The americans didn't like the shock ending but is in complete contrast to other god awful endings. (No Country for old men and There will be Blood being prime examples!) note: Check out the scene when mike goes on a blind date with his friends sister.. she is his real life wife!!
