She's ready, but are you ready for her? In this magnificent film, Billy Wilder bites the hands that feeds him. Gloria Swanson dazzles as desperate, faded silent movie star Norma Desmond, who is trying to claw her way back to the top after years of seclusion in her Hollywood mansion on Sunset Boulvard. However, her time has been and gone, and at fifty years old, this seems impossible. When Joe Gillis (Holden), an equally desperate screenwriter, happens upon her mansion while fleeing some debt collectors, he finds the perfect way to make some money by using Norma. However, will he be able to escape her wrath when she discovers the truth? After all, in the immortal words of Desmond, "No-one ever leaves a star, that's what makes one a star....."

Unfortunately, the hero in this movie makes THREE.
Montgomery Clift, as the poor boy trying to make good, makes the initial mistake of falling in love with a rich and beautiful girl, who would normally be unobtainable. If that was it, it would simply allow us to wile away 110 mins in the company of Monty's tortured soul and face-and, boy, no one ever did it better than him! Get I Confess-despite being the most unlikely Catholic priest you could imagine,Monty is superb in that with tortured secrets etc.
And in this film, he's pretty good, too! Mistake number two, though, undoes him. He doesn't just fall in LURVE with the rich girl, he falls in lust with her too-and in 1951,Nice Girls DIDN'T!! And that means mistake number three, ... Read More:

Of Hammer's four films in their Mummy cycle, this is the least distinguished. Its entertaining enough, and its relatively short running time allows it to run at quite a pace, but alongside the classic 'The Mummy', the tremendous style and verve of 'The Mummy's Shroud' and the invention of 'Blood From The Mumy's Tomb' it remains a lesser effort.
There are some stylish set pieces, and it does feel like a parody at times, especially when impossibly suave playboy Adam Beauchamp adjusts his bow tie, after depatching a would be assailant over the side of a ship. Theres also a terrific performance from Fred Clark as American showman Alexander King, who plans to take the Mummy on a world tour. However, Ronald Howard is wooden as a forest of trees as male lead ... Read More:

this film from 1947 is not as well known as most other disney animated films. It was being produced as the second world war was coming to as close and because most of disney's profits were low due to audiences in europe being cut off and money being trapped in other countries disney didn't have the money to create the masterpieces such as Fantasia, Snow White or pinocchio which had gone before it. however the film is still enjoyable the seven segments are all set to popular music (well it was popular back in 1947) and features acts such as the andrews sitsters. The film shows that although disney didn't have a lot of money they could still entertain. Another reason why this dvd is so good is that it is completey unedited. In recent years many films from the 40's and ... Read More:

The flamboyant, vibrant socialite Mame is the quintessential roaring 20's flapper, with a huge desire to live life to enjoy it. Into her world comes her orphaned nephew Patrick. Immediately the two fall in love with each other, and she spends the rest of the movie, which takes us through the Great Depression and beyond, trying to rescue him from the stuffy, conventionalist people he's used to.
This is one of my old time favorite movies. It is funny, entertaining, makes you sometimes cry, you will laugh a lot and a great lesson to be yourself, individual and not just keep in line what one is suppose to think and how one has to behave.
For Rosalind Russel (1907-1976) it proved to be the role of her life. Her most performance in the title ... Read More:
