This is a depressing and miserable movie right up to the point where the Daddy gets shot and killed by a bank robber. At this point my 7 year old got up and walked out of the room saying "I dont like this film, I dont feel safe now". No matter what the end message is, why did Disney think that guns are OK in a Christmas movie for children? Only in America, eh.

No matter how many times I watch this film, the charm of it's excessive sentimentality never fails to draw me in. This film is engaging and warm-hearted, bringing us into the life of Evelyn, a gentle and good-natured Southern woman who is going through the menopause, played by Kathy Bates. After going with her husband to a local retirement home to visit one of his relatives, Evelyn meets and befriends an elderly woman named Mrs. Threadgoode, played by Jessica Tandy.
The way in which the film seamlessly flits between past and present is admirable. After befriending each other, the two woman share the details of their lives, and Evelyn learns of the stories of Mrs. Threadgoode's various family members, from long ago, in a tiny little town ... Read More:

This film is probably the most tedious and self indulgent load of drivel I have ever seen. The characters are unbelievable and impossible to empathise with and i write as someone who enjoys media experiences which deal with faith and enjoy films which deal with the more controversial aspects - in contrast, I feel the film 'Priest' was more disturbing but which dealt with issues I could relate to and is a film which I now rate as one of my favourites. I fail to understand the point of this Scorsese disaster. My overwhelming question after watching it was '...what was the point?'. If I had watched it in a theatre I would have walked out - not out of disgust or due to having my faith insulted, but out of sheer boredom. I think this film should most ... Read More:

these songs sound terrific remixed! Who better to do the remixing then Owen Bradley, who produced the original tracks. There are those who bemoan that the songs have been remixed, but the original versions are available in pristine form elsewhere. These are slight variations on the originals, and the result is a freshening up of the terrific performances. If you love Patsy Cline's music, you'll love this recording!
