The first two Alien films are amazingly good, & the rest are well worth watching but less excellent. This is a great collection & good value for money.

This is a depressing and miserable movie right up to the point where the Daddy gets shot and killed by a bank robber. At this point my 7 year old got up and walked out of the room saying "I dont like this film, I dont feel safe now". No matter what the end message is, why did Disney think that guns are OK in a Christmas movie for children? Only in America, eh.

I adore this movie! I first saw it about 17 years ago when I was 15. I was staying in my best friends house and we rented out this movie because we both had a crush on Andrew McCarthy! Anyway we watched it three times in 24 hours!!
I can't tell you why I loved it so much, but I think I could relate to Andie (Molly Ringwald's character) at the time because I liked to be my own person, not a clone. One of the main reasons that I love this movie is DUCKIE! I love him, yes I fancied Andrew McCarthy at that time (I want to stress AT THAT TIME,NOT NOW!) but when I watch this film, it's Duckie I want Andie to be with and who I would have chosen myself! I know that the film originally ended this way (the right way!)but test audiences didn't like it so they ... Read More:

The service comedy is a genre almost as old as cinema itself and, whether it's Charlie Chaplin or Victor McLaglen and Edmund Lowe in the trenches, Andy Griffith befuddling his sergeants, the Carry On team on the assault course or Steve Guttenberg and co at the Police Academy, has an almost immutable formula that is never, ever departed from: through mildly comic misadventure misfit(s) find themselves in the army/navy/air force/police force, are hopelessly unprepared for the harsh realities of basic training, fumble every task yet somehow come out of it all as the perfect soldier/sailor/airman/cop and prove themselves in a mildly comic baptism of fire. Private Benjamin does absolutely nothing to fix what ain't broke, contenting itself to offer the odd slight ... Read More:

This, as so many have said before me, is a cult gem and the best of the genre by a long, long chalk. Wonderfully understated, except by Oates, the car is the real star, a no nonsense beast that is so cool it doesn't dress up whatever the occasion and like the heroes, Taylor and Wilson, exists for only one thing.....speed. Forget the sticky bun kids of the various two Fs and their toys, this is the Daddy of them all, a big block Chevy, primer coated, mean as a mother in law, built to street race and giving a taste of the life more realistically than any other movie I ever saw. Even the original Vanishing Point pales to insignificance by comparison. The real deal.

This is Bette Midler's finest film role and acting of her whole career. She was nominated for an Oscar, but sadly lost out, which was such a shame. There have been a couple of other films, Beaches, but sadly not the same emotion and punch.
I watched `The Rose' years and years ago, it was playing on Channel 4 over a Christmas period. I purchased this a couple of months ago, and even today it is NOT out dated. The performance from Bette Midler is awesome, funny, moving and tragic. Even after nearly 30 years, the ending still made me cry. The last song Bette sings, toward the end of the film, is just SOOOO powerful and moving.
The only other two songs that can be placed on the same level of emotion and feeling is Purple Rain; Prince and, Emma; cover version ... Read More:
Paul Newman died yesterday, and I watched 'Cool Hand Luke' in his memory. Paul liked to think he was an ordinary guy. He played ordinary guys in his films, and he hung around ordinary people. The difference is that Paul Newman knew his own mind and no one could push him. That is the kind of character that Paul Newman best portrayed.
Luke Jackson was a war hero, who may have suffered from PTSD. Certainly Luke did not want to face his demons, he did not like people, he did not want to be anyone's hero; he wanted to go his own way. Damn those people anyway.
Luke was caught drunk removing the top of parking meters and sentenced to two years in a southern chain gang. Sounds like Hell and it was. Day after day with sweaty back breaking ... Read More:

David Lynch at his very best. I have yet to meet a DL film I don't like, this one didn't disappoint. It was so different to his most recent efforts chronologically and far more soothing and simple to follow. Angelo Badalamenti score was dreamy too.
