I first saw this film when my own little girl was about the same age as the child in the film. It turned me inside out! The lead actress Norma Aleandro gives one of the finest performances I have ever seen. Hector Alterio as her husband plays the part of the irritated and increasingly panic struck husband brilliantly too. Incidently, the two came together again in 2001 to play a devoted husband and wife with Alzheimer's in 'Son of the Bride'. Unsurprisingly, they steal the show.

I have viewed many Rock Demers films (he is one of my favourite film-makers). Previously, my favourite was Tommy Tricker And The Stamp Traveler. It may seem odd that a Frech Canadian children's film-maker would be doing an Argentinian story, but he pulls it off beautifully. I now believe this is his best film. Not surprisingly since love is at the heart of this story (as it is with all good stories). Beautifully shot on location in Argentina, this is the story of three city children who go to spend their summers with their grandfather on his huge ranch. This summer is a crossroads for the family and a young friend as they discover the true value of family and friendship. This is a heart-warming story that will delight viewers of all ages. It's a fun to watch this bit crazy, bit sad, bit funny - actually more funny argentinean story. I don't speak spanish, but french and understand a bit. I laughed a lot. I didn't get bored and find it as a nice relaxing comedy/ drama for a rainy evening. I would watch it even again.

"Cenizas del Paraíso" (1997) is an outstanding Argentinian film that you shouldn't miss. Why? Because it is the kind of movie you don't forget, due to the fact that it has a very good script, a great cast and a director that took those ingredients and knew how to turn them into the kind of movie you just want to watch again.
This film begins with two deaths that deeply affect the Makantasis brothers, Pablo (Leonardo Sbaraglia), Nicolas (Daniel Kuzniecka) and Alejandro (Nicolás Abeles). One of the deceased is their father Costa (Héctor Alterio), a judge that seems to have commited suicide. The other person that died is Nicolas'girlfriend, a beautiful young woman named Ana (Leticia Bredice). The three brothers claim that their father ... Read More:
