With this being the film that launched Frank Sinatra to major things for MGM, this proves to be a great classic musical that hits all the right spots. Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra play two sailors on shore leave and who both fall for the same woman. Cue some great song and dance numbers by the pair, together and apart. Kathryn Grayson is also excellent as the female lead with also some great songs to sing. Also, watch out for the much celebrated sequence with Gene Kelly partnering Jerry the mouse (from Tom & Jerry). All in all, an excellent film.

The five movies on one DVD disc that make up The Bela Lugosi Collection are great fun and a great bargain. The price is worth it even if you're only interested in one or two of them. The two for me are The Black Cat and Murders in the Rue Morgue.

This is an excellent 2-Disc Dvd set of two Laurel & Hardy feature films...Fra Diavlo (AKA: The Devil's Brother) and Bonnie Scotland.

The films are really enjoyable and have beautiful picture and sound quality.

Disc 1 has the two films, with the original trailers and commentary tracks featuring Leonard Maltin, which are very informative. It's good to finally have a commentary on some of Laurel & Hardy's work.

Disc 2 features a documentary, excerpts from Laurel & Hardy appearances of the time and more.
Overall a quality package.

Both discs come in a fold out type case, which fits inside an outer slipcase. Recommended.

Laurel And Hardy - Bogus Bandits [1933]

In 18th Century Italy, itinerant peasants Stanlio and Ollio become the unwilling henchmen of Robin Hood-like highwayman 'Fra Diavolo' ('The Devil's Brother'). This adaptation of Auber's comic opera is nominally a vehicle for singer/romantic lead Dennis King, but of course he's outshone by Stan and Ollie as light relief all the way through.
Despite its relative obscurity alongside such features as 'Way Out West', this film was one of the duo's major works for Hal Roach, made when they were at the peak of their talents, and it features some wonderful scenes, as well as some nice music inherited from the opera on which it is based. As such, it's surprising that the film doesn't feature in the the series of discs of Laurel and Hardy / Hal Roach ... Read More:
