This film is NOTHING like the book, i was so looking forward to watching it but after watching 45mins off it, i switched it off it was that bad, and if i had ever watched the film then i would of never of read the book!! stick with the book because watching this film really does ruin it, shame the diector knew nothing about that book, did he even read the book?? because it was nothing like it!!!!

I didn't remember any of the hype around this film, and from watching the first 15 minutes I thought it was a female version of Rocky. Being in the dark meant I appreciated the full impact of this subtle and difficult film. Eastwood is a joy to watch on film, and his motivations and thoughts keep you riveted.

Like his role in Unforgiven, he plays and ambiguous and complex character. Hilary Swank is a bit corny from time to time, but a few moments on the film grab you in the gut, and give you an insight into an extreme attitude to life - the sort of dedication required to be a top class athlete.

I was knocked out - in a good way.

This film was sheer brilliance. It captivates you and opens your eyes to a world some may find foreign. Explicit, maybe yes, but if their were no intimate scenes in this film, it would not convey the true life of Brandon Teena.

I have nothing but praise for this film and its ever twisting and amazing tale.
Please, open your mind to the life of someone who will have an impact on the way you think about people forever.

This wasn't as bad as I expected...and I have such low expectations these days when I watch semi-creepy religious/satanic horror movies like this. I'm basically still recovering from the dross that was 'Stigmata'. The Reaping wasn't even close (thank the lord) and it did pass the time pleasantly enough.

Basically we have jaded ex-missionary Hilary Swank debunking her lil heart out 'cause she's narked off with God and doesn't believe in miracles anymore. Cue one major opportunity to go to some quaint uber-religious town tucked away in Louisiana to help try and debunk away why they seem to be besieged by the ancient biblical plagues of Egypt. Insomnia is a good thriller thats worth buying for many reasons:

Its a top notch cast. Al Pacino gives one of his his finest late performances as the detective who can't sleep investigating a murder. Robin Williams matches Pacino in his second great role that year (see One Hour Photo for the other), and the always good Hilary Swank gives a very good performance supporting the two main leads.

The director is Christopher Nolan (Memento, Batman Begins, The Prestige), who seems to have a natural talent for these type of films. He does a fine job with the actors as well as capturing the sometimes haunting nature of the Alaskan landscape. Nolan is helped by a taught script, and with a running time of less than 2 hours, you will find it difficult to sleep ... Read More:

The subject is interesting. The topic is fascinating. The treatment is quite reassuring. But the ideology is hateful. Imagine some natural, geological or cosmic catastrophe meaning the end of the earth, hence of humanity. The loss of the magnetic field of the earth is one possibility since it has been going down for a few decades and no one can explain. If such a phenomenon were truly happening, the normal reaction would be to bring all scientists around the world together to find a solution. There cannot be any moral and acceptable salvation for humanity, or even a little part of humanity if it does not mobilize everyone, every country, every nation.
