I was pleasantly surprised. It was much better than I thought. Although, no Colin still quite enjoyable. Lake scene was a riot! A nice twist to the story. As she says in the movie, "Jane Austen is rolling in her grave." lol

This is one of the worst films I've seen in my life!When you are watching it,you absolutely can't stand Jane,who is presented sometimes as a mean and sometimes as an old spinster.The worst thing about the film is the way it was shot.Director did a poor job,especially when characters are walking,or dancing because it's like camera is moving as well,so sometimes it was so bad for my eyes.After you watched this film the only conclusion is that Jane Austen was a sad little creature-a plain Jane.

When it aired in my country in the summer of 2002 and i loved it. it was one of the best mini series i have ever watched. i don't know if it was the subject, gay romance in 19 century England, but this is to this day still in my top 5 of most see mini series.
the plot, the script, the character and the acting are amazing. you can tell it is BBC made due to it's quality.
i highly recommend it and If you don't want to buy try and rent it from somewhere I promise it be worth it.

This is a well-made entertaining show. Starts out with much promise but kind of runs out of steam. The character development is excellent but it is at the expense of the plot, which all but evaporates after about the third episode. Great performances pity the storyline couldn't match up.

How such unutterable tripe came to be created is beyond me. Despite distinguished creators, a decent cast and a respectable budget, we got something that was badly written, badly acted and looked cheap. Which doesn't even begin to adequately describe the mind-boggling badness of it all.

Their historical and archaeological advisor seems to have been present only to ensure that all traces of accuracy were removed. Alarm bells already started ringing in my head as soon as the Templars were mentioned - writers of fiction seem unable to escape the rubbish about them being guardians of secret knowledge and all that rot which Dan Brown and a host of pseudo-historians got rich on. Lets face it, Madame Bovary was always going to be difficult to produce. The story really centres around Dr Bovary, and Emma Bovary is his second wife, and you have to read about his first marriage until you get to Emma. Although I am a fan of Flaubert and Madame Bovary, as well as many others, I can also see where a large group of people are coming from when they say that this book is one of the most boring written.Madame Bovary (Penguin Classics) if you would like to read the book.

She was quite the avant-garde free-thinker as a young professor and the shy, stuttering John Bayley seemed an unlikely match for her, but fall in love they did and they shared a long and loving marriage. The movie focuses on Iris' battle with Alzheimer's disease, which gradually robbed her of the ability to use her beloved words. John cared for her and loved her until the end.

A truly terrible film. I still watched it to the end in the same way people watch the wreckage from car accidents. It was un-intentionaly funny, it has the same other worldly view of London that Notting Hill had. The only people i really had any time for were the old couple. All the rest i couldnt care less for. Bunch of pretentious idiots.
That annoying young bloke chatting-up anything that moves, where was his accent from? Ewan mcgregor playing a North London gay, how obvious. The couple being ever so nice and relaxed about their imminent divorce, is that for real?
Basicly i cant understand what the films about, apart from saying; Come up to Hampstead Heath in the summer! its really nice, you may find the odd gay hanging around in the bushes, and meet the odd burk, but apart ... Read More:

if you do not appreciate the cheesiness of some romcom's then this will come as a refreshing change. The romantic elements are low key and the backstory and setting are unusual enough to take the focus off the overused "zero to hero" formula. It contains a good few laughs along the way with all the main characters giving a good performance but for me, the character played by Warren Clarke was an unexpected bonus.
