The 1970's saw a lot of variety shows on TV, but none were as unique as The Muppet Show. Here, you had large puppets doing the dances, singing the songs, telling the jokes, and performing the skits. And they do it well.
It's hard to describe the typical episode because they have some variety. Each episode features a special guest star (more on that later) who is involved in a few of the scenes. There are usually a variety of skits and at least one or two song and dance numbers. And there's the behind the scenes drama. We are always treated to some backstage antics as poor host Kermit the Frog has to put up with the temperamental stars of the show. Whether its stand up comic Fozzie Bear who thinks no one wants him around to ... Read More:

I'm not sure why as it certainly dons't appeal to me but my son - just turned two - will sit and watch this constantly if you let him!
He finds it hilarious - he also has a blanket like Elmo and has taken to kissing it 'like Elmo' and can recite most of what Elmo says.
He had never watched Elmo before this but it still appeals.

I think that the main reason that I adore this film is because it is the first-yes, that's right, first-adaptation of 'A Chritsmas Carol' that I ever saw. I got the video when I was probably no more than about six or seven, and LOVED it, even if the Ghost of Christmas yet to come did scare me out of my wits. Sadly, my little brother got hold of it and watched it until it was completely ruined-thankfully, not before I had got the book, as it is mentioned at the very end of the film-so, obviously I was unable to watch it. But I remembered all the songs, so I got the book of the songs so I could sing them in my singing lessons. Then I found it on DVD and bought it without question because I wanted to be able to sing along to the songs, especially 'When Love ... Read More:

An entertaining movie but not the best muppet caper.
Gonzo is feeling different and lonely. Nothing his muppet buddies do can make him feel any better. One day he receives a message from space. His family are coming to visit!
No one believes him until the sinister agency responsible for extra terrestial life kidnap him and try to suck his brains out. Then it's muppets to the rescue and the usual capers and chaos ensue.
Great film for children of all ages!

Like reviewer “Lenfran” I saw this as a child when it was first released and agree with everything he says in “Make mine day” and will just add a few comments.
Apparently due to a misguided sense of political correctness or whatever the lively and tuneful “Martins and the Coys” (great fun about feuding hill billy families) has been omitted, why? I saw the unexpurgated version and suffered no ill effects whatsoever.
Some of the sequences are truly beautiful, “Blue Bayou” with its wonderful subtle palette of blue is the most sophisticated animation I think I have ever seen, with “Two Silhouettes” close behind, but this is not a true cartoon as the dancers are live (Riabouchinska and Lichine). Read More:

I dont really enjoy whoopi goldbergs comedy films i have to say but in this as in "the colour purple" she is magnificent. Of course it helps that the writing is above top drawer and that the whole film is beautifully put together. The film opens with the statement "this is a true story". It tells the story of the murder of a black civil rights leader in mississippi by an extreeme right wing bigot played brilliantly by james woods who after two mistrials is not convicted. Alec Baldwin plays a lawyer who looks into the case many years later and awakens to the prejudice that he has taken for granted his whole life we follow his gradual realisation that if he doesnt take a stand nothing will change. This is the kind of film making that sets a standard, this is what films should do: ... Read More:

It's amazing how a green puppet with pingpong balls as eyes can always make me cry when I see this movie. The performance of Kermit's nephew as Tiny Tim is exactly that, a performance, a great piece of acting, made by a sock, as moving as anything you could think of. Lots of today actors should learn from Tiny Tim how to act. Or from Michael Caine. This, along with Sleuth and The man who would be king is his best performance ever. And The Great Gonzo as Dickens is surprisingly accurate. Rizzo the rat is also very funny, without spoiling at all the meaning of the story.
As I haven't got the DVD I'm reviewing the video release, and I can give five stars to the film easily. It simply has the magic of Christmas inside. I'm now 31, and Christmas is no longer, sadly, what it used ... Read More:
