Was there ever a film that created such a volume of gas? The Church never got the point: the Pythons were not tearing down the pillars of the church, they were creating quite possibly the funniest thing they ever did, and along the way blasting Christianity into the reality of the 21st century. You only have to look at the Characters list to start laughing - "Crucifee"; "Lead Singer Crucifee"; "Man Even Further Forward"; "Mr. Big Nose"; "Shoe Follower"......... "Shoe Follower"!!! So in fact, "He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy !" And of course, they only spoke the truth: that's all he was. The Church took the bait, hook, line and sinker - Oh, dear! "Crucifixion? - Goo-ood." And, like Keaton, Milligan only has to look into the ... Read More:

I have to say that many of my friends thought this would be a waste of money..... a 30 year old film wouldn't be worth buying on Blu-Ray if you had the DVD. WRONG! This was so much better than I expected, the grafitti scene alone was stunning, you could see every instance! If you are a fan..... invest or be a very naughty boy!

What else is there to say? This film will have you crying one way or another. A moving, beautifully musical film about the miners strike and a colliery band. A suberb performance by Pete Postlethwaite.

This spellbinding made for TV film (starring Gregory Peck and Christopher Plummer) is based on J. P. Gallagher's book "The Scarlet Pimpernel of the Vatican", the true life story of Monsignor Hugh O'Flaherty, who saved roughly 4000 Jews and Allied POWs from Nazi occupied Rome.
In 1943 O'Flaherty organises an enormous network of civilians, priests and nuns to save Jewish refugees and Allied POWs from the Nazis, hiding them in flats convents and churches in Rome to save them from the GeStaPo and Colonel Kappler. Kappler decides to have a white line drawn around the Vatican and check those entering and leaving but with many disguises O'Flaherty manages to slip the net and escape assassination attempts on his life.

As Mitchell Gant, Clint helps the US smuggle a super-secret Russian fighter craft out of its hangar deep in the heart of Russia and fly it over to our side. Of course, it's not as easy as it sounds, what with Gant having recurring flashbacks to a harrowing experience in Vietnam (PLOT POINT - why did they have an obviously traumatized vet like Clint head up a sensitive assignment like this? Oh well....).
In fact, there are two stars to this one. Clint, of course, and that sleek, black dream machine of a MIG that he commandeers. The scene where the camera and Clint circle the plane is almost like a car commercial (all that's missing is Ricardo Montalban talking about its 'rich Corinthian leather' interior).

By the time Pennies From Heaven was first broadcast in the spring of 1978, writer Dennis Potter - the enfant-terrible of British televisual drama - had already attracted a fair share of positive and negative criticism for his preceding works, Moonlight on the Highway, Double Dare and Casanova. This troika of bleak works, all of which were deeply self-referential and used the subtext of popular songs as an underpinning for the dark themes lurking beneath the polite veneer of normality, would very much define the style and concept of Pennies From Heaven, with Potter being awarded a greater degree of control over his material for the first time following the success of the three plays listed above and, of course, the mass tabloid controversy surrounding his previous ... Frank Jones (Michael Caine) has a son (Nigel Havers) who works in a top secret British intelligence agency. Frank has had experience in that line, but now has retired to a quiet and safe life. His son tells him that strange things are happening, and he's planning on leaving and marrying an older woman he's fallen in love with. He says a Soviet mole was found, that security is all over the place encouraging people to rat on each other. The higher ups seem convinced that if they don't do something, their American friends in the CIA will stop working with them.
