The Cosby show is a very good American family comedy. It was made in the early 1980's and feautured the great comedian and actor Bill Cosby. The show follows the everyday trials and tribulations of DR Cliff Huxtable (played by Cosby) and his family. Which include his wife Claire whose a lawyer and his five kids, Sondra, Denise, Theo, Vanessa and little Rudy. The kids cover all age groups and the show tackles many different issues the kids go through like dating, death of a pet, playing sports for school and many others. Even though it tackles some tricky subjects the show is always funny and shows how funny kids can be. Bill Cosby is also fantastic as Cliff and the way he works and talks to the kids is hillarious. The show was a huge success ... Read More:

The Wiz (1978) was a hip, modernised, all-black version of L. Frank Baum's famous fantasy, adventure story, The Wonderful Wizard Of (first published at the dawn of the century).
We all know of course that the best version of this famous childrens story will forever be the delightful Judy Garland classic of 1939. Though brave and ambitious, The Wiz in it's favour is a diverse though failed experiment to bring the story into a more contemporary setting.
Soul music legend Diana Ross was oddly (mis)cast as Dorothy with the character in this film being a rather neurotic, wet-behind-the-ears 24 year old harlem school teacher who is whisked away in a snow blizzard one night and lands in Oz.

As I said above, the sole purpose of this wonderful picture is a chance for Metro Goldwyn Mayer to showcase it's biggest stars in the year of 1948.
And with a line up including Judy Garland, Perry Como, Gene Kelly, Lena Horne and Mickey Rooney as well as others, you can bet there's a lot of talent to go around.
A biopic of the songwriting team Rogers + Hart who were behind such shows as 'Babes in Arms' gives every star a chance to show off their own unique talent, whether it's dancing, singing, acting or comedy.
A truly historic collection of Hollywood's finest, it's worth every penny!

Watching this MGM review musical is a little like being a graduate student on an archeology dig. You'll find a lot to sift through, and one or two things you find still look very good.
The overwhelming impression the film leaves is the lush vulgarity of the MGM style. I don't think there's a subtle color, costume or set in the place. There are acres of pastel gauze curtains hanging from the sky, crystal chandeliers that float, pink ostrich feathers that wrap around, stick up, hang down and envelop, glitter stuck on anything that moves or doesn't move, sunsets so colorful that no human could possibly have seen them in real life, gowns which are extravagantly bizarre. Everything blares out that this is the best quality money can buy, and ... Read More:

- This could be a wonderful film - but the reason I've given it three stars is because there is something lacking.
The story itself is a not-entirely-accurate biography of composer Jerome Kern (at the time they were not allowed to tell parts of his life) and it includes much of his music.
Everyone on the MGM rota that could sing or dance was bought in for a number. So you have the delights of stars such as Frank Sinatra, June Allyson, Kathryn Grayson, Lena Horne, Dinah Shore . . .
Taking the part of Kern is Robert Walker, who does well, but doesn't quite manage to carry it. Van Heflin, as his friend and mentor, is likeable, but bland.
One of the highlights of the film is Judy Garland in a small role as ... Read More:
