Some of the most atrocious acting even committed to celluloid. Just awful, awful, awful!
I watched 15 minutes before I could stand no more.
Save yourself the hassle & buy Zeffirelli's version instead. You won't regret THAT!

This film, based on the dreadful events of 1990's Sierra Leone (limbs hacked off, families massacred etc) is in the 4 to 5 star range. It could be upsetting for some people to watch, because it DOES show brutality, sadism, indifferent UN officials suffering from compassion-fatigue. In a word, it is realistic. My wife, the daughter of an ex-RAF air traffic controller, who was born in Tanganyika territory (now Tanzania), found it very upsetting to see, partly because as a child she watched something very similar happening across the border river in Congo in the 1960's.
The film does show the Africans as people, not just a backdrop to fighting and adventuring...and for once, the white people are not shown as almost all wicked or stupid, though the ... Read More:

I cannot describe it at all.
Touching, moving, passionate.
None of these words do Titanic justice.
A TRUE tear-jerker.
The way the lead roles act is overpowering.
And the sheer terror of the sinking really touches your heart.
If you have not already, buy this film.
Please!
I'll buy it for you if I have to!!

All you have to do is look at the reviews to see that this is a film that divides opinion. I have to disagree with the criticism this has received. For my part, I thought it was brilliant. I found it a captivating film with loads of quality twists and turns which had you wondering where this is going to end up. I don't think any of the acting was bad - liked jack especially and de Caprio put in a good performance. I think the average person will enjoy the film. The avid film buff will pick holes in it.

Honestly, I cannot figure out this movie. There is undoubtedly the will to tell about some aspects of N.Y. history, but this is no historical movie. It is neither an action movie (despite the abundant blood and violence), nor a romance.
Characters are played a bit too cartoon-type, the script is not really stricking.
With all respect for Martin Scorsece and the effort placed to make this movie(reason for which I rate it 2 stars and not 1 star), if one has to wash the car, one better spend his time that way.

Catch Me if You Can by Steven Spielberg is about a young man who was a brilliant master of deception. It is based on the real life exploits of Frank Abagnale, Jr. who successfully passed himself off as a teacher, a pilot, a doctor and a lawyer all before he reached his 21st birthday! He did this in the late 1960's.
Frank Abagnale, Jr. used disguise and deception to get away with his antics. He passed off bad checks to finance his expensive life by targeting drone like people. He stole the bulk of the money from corporations.
Masterful performances by both Leonardo Dicaprio as Frank Abagnale, Jr. and Tom Hanks as his pursuer make this an enormously entertaining and light hearted movie that tickles the funny bone.

You see, when a film is made of a book, you expect more than just some similarities. While we still have most of the Garland characters and the general pretense of a hidden community on paradise island, we lack the biting story to go with it. Imagine a 'Lord of the Flies' remake without the kids going kill crackers. This film has great cinematography, but lacks the moral fibre the book oozed. Shame really, as they knacked the beaches up while they filmed it too.
Release Date November 07, 2005
This film is a classic. But half way through the film you have to get up a swap discs for the second half of the film.
I don't know if the other editions are the same. But its kind of annoying!

Hands down the best environmental film I've seen. DiCaprio does a stellar job of covering a huge range of topics (the only one missing in my opinion is a discussion on nuclear power). Manages to convey the urgency facing us while offering some truly inspirational ways of looking at our current situation. If I could make films and I did a documentary on the planet and our current situation, this is probably what I'd like it to turn out like.
Edit, 18 Oct, 2008: I find the review below titled 'Utter Rubbish' puzzling, and especially so that 5 people have found it helpful. The reviewer says 'Di Caprio is rubbish - he has clearly been hired to front this, is in it for about 15 mins max and has no interest or insight into his subject matter whatsoever.' Doesn't the reviewer realize that DiCaprio ... Read More:
