I first saw this as a young boy, and couldn't understand why I empathised with these soldiers when they were German. And then I watched transfixed, and when the ending came that clinched it - it was, and remains till this day, very close to my heart. It permanently changed me as young person and my moral compass and my view of the world. It was that important. It also helped fire up my love of great cinema and how total an experience a great film can be.
And of course, it was made very close to the real events, and has that touch of realism that films made now cannot reach back and grasp.
Too many highlights to list here - the individual stories, the great scenes (alone in a foxhole with a frenchman he's killed etc) ... Read More:

This is one of the best teamings of grant and hepburn. I won't tell you what is going to happen but the build up to the inevitable is brillaintly acted and paced. It's a gentler and more well observed than the screwball antics of 'bringing up baby' and much more in the style of 'the philadelphia story'. I'm not saying it's predictable in any way. It's one of those situations where you want the ending you get and can't wait for it to happen.
I love the pairing of grant and hepburn as much as grant and irene dunne, check out 'the awful truth' and 'my favourite wife' if you want to see a woman get the better of grant! Grant and hepburn as a team are superlative and I prefer them to hepburn and spencer tracy.
The observations on money ... Read More:

Now after that radical statement I know different media calls for different handling of the story. And most movies do not live up to the book. However some exceed the book. Surprise this is the "don't live up to the book" one. If you thought that the movie was insightful, surprising and shocking the first time you saw it. Then you defiantly have lower expectations than the reader does. Especially with such a botched ending; the ending changed ... Read More:

Hi
I know the old version of BG is not really up to the production values of the New Series. But hey its nostalgic fun, and far better then anything else around at its time on TV such as Lost in Space, Buck Rodgers etc. For me I really enjoyed looking back over this old icon from the 70s & 80s. Its a must have for my collection.

Battlestar Galactica was one of those late 70s / early 80s shows which quickly entered into popular culture. It has an excellent cast, including Starbuck (played by Dirk Benedict) who is a smoking, drinking, gambling, womanising pilot (with marked similarities to the Han Solo persona) and the more serious Captain Apollo (Richard Hatch) who is son of Commander Ardama (more like the serious foil / Luke Skywalker role). Commander Adama (Lorne Greene - from Bonanza) plays the main role as the serious commander of the Galactica ship.
Despite all the song and dance made of the similarity with Star Wars (Ep IV), this is a separate idea, and has more in common with a US military operation which operates like an aircraft carrier. The nice twist here is that they are ... Read More:

If you're interested in how American politics works or doesn't, see this movie now. What a knock-out depressing, inspiring, convoluted, messed up, brilliant piece of work this Otto Preminger film is. Charles Laughton steals the show (his last performance?) as a sleazy southern senator. You won't believe the machinations these people perform in Washington. And while this movie was made decades ago, it's still has so much truth in it today--people set up to be scapegoats, corruption, politics like you've never see it before.
True, this is sometimes touted as a "gay" film because of the one senator who is blackmailed, though is at least bisexual, but the film is more about how the American system is put together.
A frightening, brilliant movie with ... Read More:

I would rate this film as one of the best vampire flicks ever. The prison scene is incredible, you can actually see and feel the fear in the poor blokes eyes. Whether it is the TV or full version this is definitely one to have in your horror film collection. Don't watch this one alone and without curtains on your windows......you never know what might come knocking.
